My dad bought a transit bus w/8V 71 diesel engine in 1989 from City of Portland, OR to make a motor home. Has set most of the time beside his shop. He passed away 1999, and I sold the place with shop last month, so I had to move the bus. Batteries were bad(no surprise), replaced them (2) with new ones today, checked oil, water and trans fluid, hit the starter button, crank for about 5 to 10 minutes, trying to fire. Then all at once life breathed back into this sleeping giant,Blew dust and dirt all over me. But sounded just like it did last time it run , about 12 years ago. Air built up, air bags for air ride filled up,put it into gear and she surged forward into a slow crawl. Boy did that ever feel good, drove it out on the the adjoining piece of property. Will have to drive it over to my place in the next couple of weeks...:>)

Sure feels good when everything comes together!!!!

Oh by the way, Shawn ran the starter button as I checkout everything, that is how I got all the dust in the face, oh well. Sure is great to have good help.

PS.. motor and Alison trans has less than 35,000 miles since rebuilt.

Those 8V's have a bark that no other smoker does, that's for sure! I ran a day cab GMC with an 8V-71 in it during harvest years ago...at the time I hated that thing with a passion, but you never ran out of power...only RPM. That girl would sure wind up. Kinda miss it now. Never thought I would say that.

Look around the engine compartment real good. Most rear engine busses with V type GMC diesels have a switch an a starter button in the engine compartment. Makes runnin the overhead 10X easier.

Yer sir, I enjoy him each and everyday,24/7. I don't think he will be going anyplace soon, as he is my God's Child, born with brain damage and cerebral palsy. 20 years old now and Loves his Special Olympics, bowling right now. Likes helping me on tractors. He has one of his own that I am helping him restore Farmall SC and lots of help from individuals on this website...:>)

Thanks
Keith & Shawn
