An area farmer was killed yesterday when the tractor he was driving was struck from behind by an 18 wheel tanker truck. I'll try to post a link.

obviously no one taught them how to drive, we used to get a lot of defensive driving training where i work at( phone company). I see quiet a few people turning left on red, even from the oncoming lane( they are in the wrong lane altogether), nowhere in north carolina is it legal to turn left on red, don't know about other states

The farmer was not wearing the seatbelt; the tractor flipped forward and pinned him in the cab. The truck driver allegedly leaned over to retrieve a dropped cell phone and drifted back into the right lane.

I'm no one to judge but it seems like the trucker made a horrible error, why would anyone ignore the flashing lights of the pick up following the baler? Some folks just get in too big a hurry and can't wait that extra few seconds to do a safe manouvre on the roads. I feel sorry for the loss of a farmer, the pain of his family and , yes I feel sorry for the trucker, he didn;t start off his day thinking he would cause a horrible event...a shame all the way around..

As you said "why would anyone ignore the flashing lights of the pick up following the baler?"

And, I'll add... why can't folks go for even a few minutes without "petting" their DAMN cellphone???

The trucker should have but never suspected a tractor ahead of the flashing pickup. He may have been tired or never heard tell of highway vehicle tailing a slow speed machine. It's also possible the following pickup had trailed back too far behind the tractor/baler. We have all seen that happen. I wonder if the farmer was wearing his seat belt inside the tractor cab? Odds are he was thrown through the glass and crushed. If held inside the protection of a four post rops he would have had a decent chance of survival.

yesterday while hauling beans with tractor and wagons I almost got me a car..

the (YA I AM SAYING IT) STUPID IDIOT passed me in an intersection with my turn light on and me slowing down to turn to the left... and if I didnt have a MF8480 with that silly transmitiion that goes clear back to 7th when you touch the clutch.... I would have had him pinned under the front tire..

this is the second time in that intersection in 7days.... all passing double yellow, in the intsection.. yes in the intersection

when I was learning to drive I was taught YOU NEVER pass going into any intersection. WHO TAUGHT THESE PEOPLE!!!!! !
