The engine was locked up, note I said was. I filled all the cylinders with tranny fluid and let it sit an hour or so then hit the starter and it took about 20 hits of the button and it was turning over. Sure wish they all would pop loose that easy. Guess I'll go out in a little bit and see if I can clean up the points and hot wire it and use my big fuel tank, a 1 qt fuel tank from a lawn mower and see how it runs

Glad to hear it was easy to get unstuck.

Did you add a quart of tranny fluid to each cylinder or just a few tablespoons?
I've got a 6 cyl Ford industrial that hasn't been run for a while and it aint turning over by grabbing the fan belt and pushing on the fan.
After our conversation on the N board I'm wondering if I should buy a 6 pack of ATF or if a quart will do.
Grin...

I put about a 1/6 of the bottle in each cylinder and then poured a little more in the exhaust pipe. The pipe was open to the sky when we got it so I figured rain water in the cylinders but there didn't seem to be any but figured the valve on one one cylinder would be open to the exhaust so thats the reason for the tranny fluid in the pipe. I have at time on other engines used as much as it takes to fill the cylinders all depend on the engine and if I have enough fluid on hand to do so. I know I have to take a shower tonight to get rid or the tranny fluid shower I took this afternoon. LOL

I am with you it is all ways a challenge to haul in and old tractor that do'nt run.The boys and i hauled in a old tractors for years sometimes we're lucky sometimes not.we have done everthing from setting batterys on hood 1 gal oil bottle on hood for gas.we even cranked a H farmall with the belt pully by hand.It is'nt no challenge to get one that runs that takes all the education out of it.Agree?

Yep I prefer to buy them none running and then get them up and running, seems like there worth more to do it that way and then when you jump on it and use it in the field it really makes you feel good about one that wou;ld have ended up being cut up for scrap

Well so far that is 3 out of 4 tractors we hualed in this past week that I have running. Of course theres now the rewireing of them and all the little things to fix but I figure if the engine will run well then the other stuff is worth doing. The 4th one will probably be running in a day or 2. Its an Allis D-17 and when I opened up the carb it looked like it had about 3/4 of and inch of mud in it, boy is it bad off, but I have a parts carb that should fix that problem LOL
