I'm trying to widen my rear wheels to attach a loader to my wide fron 70 gas and cannot get the pinion shaft to budge after the cap and jack screws are loose. Any ideas?

Find a quarter wall pipe longer than the axle. Cut a half-moon out on one end, weld a thick plate on the other end. Rotate the axle so the wedge is on top, slide the pipe onto the axle so the extended portion contacts the wedge, and use the BFH. Puts the slam against the wedge, not the axle.

You didn't say for sure if you got the wedge to move ? If so take it out drop the axle down and move the wheel where you need it and tighten it all back up and recheck it again a few times as it works in. Don't try to get it real tight all in one time. If you have time and want to loosen up the pinion slip the whole wheel off and soak it good in penetrant oil and use a VERY LARGE air impact and keep working it it should come loose. DO NOT HEAT as this will weaken the cast iron and make it crack !!!!

When working the weldshop we were called several times to come heat the clamps to move them.

Never did heat them just one big rap on the end of the axle with a sledge hammer and 90% of them came loose.

Some poeple here say it will cause damage inside but we don't know of any damage on the 10 or so we did.

Even had a call from a dealer once to heat as the service techs could not move one.

Drove to the shop with the service truck got out the sledge instead of the torch and they said what no torch. Hit it once loaded the hammer up and went home and sent a $35 bill for service call to the deere dealer.

Suit yourself as to if you want to try it ot not.
