To us, the engagement really isn't all that long, atleast not in this area. I knew long ago that I wanted to put a ring on her finger, but I wanted to be able to afford a nice ring, not just some cheap thing you can get out of a vending machine and I've never had any kind of funding. I've been planning how to propose for over a year so I really paid attention to her, (not that I don't otherwise) but to get the details and find the perfect place to do it. She mentioned going to a dinner theater (saw the ad for the show) and I found my place, and the show was fantastic. We had a drink in the bar while the cast came out and sang a little in caborette fashion and just after midnight I dug the ring outta the pocket of my coat that she was wearing and got down on one knee... the rest is history.

We plan to get married on May 10, 2008 because that is 6 years to the day we have been together so it's kinda sentimental(she's wanted that date for atleast the last 1 1/2 years), and we'll both be out of school for atleast a few months by then.

It'll also give me time to get a job worth having that pays decent, and to find a place to live since we're both still living at home with the parents.

I like my job and more importantly the career I'm in right now, but the pay kinda sucks. I'm just waiting to get through school and then I'll start going for either a large raise or a company that really appreciates their employees and pays them accordingly.

Be sure that you always appreciate her for what she is rather than despising her for what she is not.

Sorry about my date but it is also May 10 2008. I wanted to have it on my 4 year being together(April 24) but it is during Easter and the church where I will be married will not do it during Lent. I will be married in Cecil, a small town near Shawano.

Now Don,

Are you really being right up front with her?

Have you spilled the beans about your liking Oliver tractors? This could be a deal breaker, ya know. :>)

Hey Don, Congrats? But if your going to get a horse, pass on the fixer upper. Get one that is good to go.

Met this swell girl in October 1970- we were married in February 1971. During the brief courtship, she uttered those "famous last words"- "I'd like to have a horse someday". 35 years, 3 kids and 2 grandkids later, she has 13 horses, and my original idea that her having a horse would justify me having a tractor has long since gone by the boards. I'd gladly get rid of some tractors if she could get rid of some horses. Just be careful not to let her (or your) hobby get away from her/you.

It's always good to find a girl that has a vice like horses. I look at it as a "get out of jail free card" for when you stay at the shop too late workin' on tractors.

My g/f doesn't mind me hangin' at the farm or working on the tractors...but she hasn't warmed to the never ending season of hockey yet, but I'm still working on her.

I hope she doesn't find out that we usually aren't working on tractors out to the farm. If she ever figures out what the cribbage board is and that the refrigerator isn't filled with sarsparilla's...she might rethink things! :)

Good luck with it Don!

Billy
