Over the weekend my girlfriend and I went down to Janesville for a 3 day weekend, with diner and a show at the Janesville Armory. Little did she know I had the ring in the inside pocket of my coat.

After the show I got down on one knee and proposed.

Now we've got a little over 1 1/2 years to plan the next wedding in the family.... Still hasn't completely sunk in yet either, even thoguh it's been in the works for well over a year...

Congratulations! Sounds like good planning to me. My wife and I dated 2 years, were engaged 2 years, and have been married almost 5 now, so I don't think your engagement is to long. Again, best wishes!

1 1/2 years in planning? I went to a buddys wedding recption and met a beautiful girl there.
We danced all night, felt very comfortable together. On our second date we made our wedding plans, three weeks later we were married.
To this day I can't understand why this girl would have anything to do with me, but all is well after 17 1/2 years.
God does wonderfull things.

Well that's a lomg time to think about it Donny. But don't loose heart. If you love her that love will grow. Make a commitment to always do what's best for her. There is a fine line between being a pawn of a woman and being a man in charge that cherishes his woman for what she is, a woman.

Congratulations, to both you and Brad, on your engagements. Hasn't sunk in yet? My friend, I've been married for 31 years and it hasn't sunk in yet with me either. ;-} Just kidding. I just had to respond to a fellow badger, since I live 30 miles southeast of Janesville, which you mentioned. BTW, where do you live? Our daughter was married this past July, after a 14-month engagement. She married a Scotsman...in Scotland! Had the wedding in the Scottish West Highlands. Then had a reception here a month later for our U.S. friends. And people wonder why I haven't gotten much done on the tractor project! Take care and good luck. David

Seems like a long wait to get married after engagement? is this the norm in US?

Normally, people book me to photograph weddings at least 8 months in advance (and I'm assuming booking the photographer isnt the first thing they do). I've got dates taken as far as Sept 2008, and June is fully booked for '07 and '08.

I do not know what is the "norm" for an american engagement, but I wanted a spring wedding and my fiance and me don't have the money to get it done in the matter of a few months or so. We want to pay off some debt that WE have accumalated in the past 2.5 years that we have been together. Just my two cents worth.

Congrats.

It is common to want a wedding in early summer at least in the upper midwest of the USA - winter is not a good time to plan a celebration. It is also very, very difficult to line up the church, reception hall, & so forth in less than 6 months, and often requires a year - here in the midwest in somewhat smaller communities.

So if one is into that type of wedding, over a year is very common.

Then, some go to Vegas or the local justice of the peace & get married in a week or so.

To each their own.

Was the over a year route for me too, & fine with me. :)
