I got a nice looking John Deere 620 in last week and it wouldnt run worth nothing. Fuel in sediment bulb, no fuel coming out. Blew back to tank worked for a little while then stopped again. Pulled the sediment bulb cleaned it and re-plenished gas. Ran good for a while and stopped, agrivated took the bulb out and as i pulled it out i caught a glimpse of somthing black almost poking through the hole. I grabbed it with needle nose and found a 12in peice of electical tape. In further investigation i pulled 4 in total out of the tank. It makes one wonder a angry farmhand planning sabotage, or a very young son more than willing to help dad fix the tractor?

Had a CC Case one time that would run just fine until you put it under load, then it would run real crappy. It wouldn't die, just no power. Took the sediment bowl off several times and nothing. Finally took off the tank and could hear a "clunking" noise as I would roll the tank around. Looked inside and found the baffle between the starting tank and the main tank had came loose and was setting over the outlet from the main tank. Since there was a tube sticking into the tank, the baffle was sitting at an angle so that not all the fuel was being shut off. Had plenty to start and run, just not enough for power. Started opening the valves from both tanks and no problem.

I had a Ford Ute one time that would make a funny rattling kind of noise when you took off, braked, or went round a corner. It drove me nuts for years. Finally reckoned it had to be under the tray somewhere. One night, while waiting up with my cousin for some friends who were visting from Canada, we vowed to find the the mystery rattle even if we had to pull the entire car apart. After removing all the tray side panels and taking up the floor, we attacked the fuel tank. As we tilted the tank to get it out we heard that familiar rattle. Got the sender out, had a look inside and what did we find? The locking assembly for a fuel cap. It suddenly dawned on me why the ute had an unpainted non-lockable after market fuel cap.

Pick your own vegetable operation where the Pretty One dragged me to stock up for canning season. A whole bunch of people there with one weary mother there with about 6 of her monsters. Ten minutes after they got there the 6 kids were awful quiet and more or less out of sight. Owner of the patch found out later they had taken every tomato they could find and mushed them into the gas tank of his IH Cub.

Several years ago i bought a 140 farmall from an estate auction in Kentucky. It hadn't ran for years and they sold it to be junk. One day while
deciding what i was going to do with it,junk it or fix it up,i looked in the gas tank to see how rusty it was and saw what looked like paper, but turned out to be several thousand dollars.

Didn't that just frost you? Why couldn't the 'no start' just be something simple, like a bad condenser? Ha!

Popcycle sticks - 7 of 'em! We had a real large family get-together and after my Super C would run, quit, run, quit as they settled down and covered fuel bowl inlet. LOVE my little cousins!

My MM UTS sat for over a year out of gas. When I tried to drive it home it died repeatedly. Inlet to the sediment bowl was plugged with dead insects.

My grad pals JD 1010 fer as long as I kin remember would stop in the field and you had to drag it in. I guess he would fiddle with it and go back to bush hog段n till it would stall again, it may be 6 mouths but the problem of stall段n out would show back up and he would run it till it had to be drug back in. My uncle owns it now and has had the same problem. He told me it all started when the fuel cap wuz lost and a rag used as a temporary cap. He claim痴 he kin not find a rag in the tank. It stalled and I drug it in and when I got time I took a mag lite and could see what looked like a fiberglass lined bottom in the tank. I took a wire and fished out a red shop rag that look like the day it wuz made. It wuz lay段n the bottom of the tank pretty as kin be and did not look like a red shop rag in the tank. After I removed the sediment bowl it did not have a screen (BTW he had 2 bowls back to back) I then cleaned the carb, no inlet filter to be found. I still could not figger why it would starve fer fuel till I wuz git段n ready to replace the needle and seat. I looked at the seat and it appeared to have lint in it. You could see lite thru it but could not blow thru it. It wuz red lint off the rag and acted like a filter till it stoped up the inlet but two big to pass.

A few years ago,I worked on an older Dodge van for a friend.Didn't run right. He tried a different fuel pump, carb.
It didn't take me long to discover that a gallon of milk was poured in the gas tank by one of his fans.Sure was some digusting stuff in the summer heat!

40 years ago I bought first tractor to farm with IH F 12 for 5 bucks. Took 2 days to find all motor parts and 1 day to put together. In putting fuel linrs together I used permetex. I used too much on one firring . It formes a neat round ball between 2 fittings whicjh would roll back going up hill and shut off gas. stop crank would run a ways , About when got to top of hill it rolled out of way till next hill. With crank start this was a b----. took a while to find that!!!

I found a really nice piece of flat iron about 12 inches long with graduated markings on it in the fuel tank of a John Deere 60. I remember my dad telling me he had a Farmall H or M that had an Oak leaf in the tank. He had a hard time figuring out what the problem was because it floated over the outlet and back off again.

YUP! I had a dead bee butt down plugging a ford 5000 diesel. Had one heck of a time trying to figure it out. Removed the fuel shutoff, and there he was butt down. Its amazing what a little bee will do to a diesel.

Found a piece of Scotch celophane tape in a irrigation pump fuel tank. Was real frustrating, because it would close off the fuel supply only occasionally, and when engine shut down, and fuel stopped flowing, would float away frome intake and engine would operate normally when restarted. Took a while to find that one!

My Dad told us kids of a time back in the 30's when his family (Grandpa/Grandma and the kids) loaded up in the old Model T to head to Grandma's (My Great grandma) house for Sunday dinner. There was (is) a steep hill between the two farms. They'd almost make it to the top and the thing would die. Did this 3-4 times. Grandpa decided to go up the hill in REVERSE. Made it fine, turned around and headed on to Grandma's. When they got there the men started trying to find out what was going on with the car. Dad said that they fished the biggest, ugliest, hairiest spider out of the tank, that he'd ever seen! Going up hill forward it would go to the back of the tank and cover the hole. When they went backwards, it settled to the other side of the tank and didn't block the hole.

I had a Kubota I bought used, I was cutting hay with it one day and it died on me..I restarted it, cut a bit more, it died...had to drag it down to the shop.

We fiddle with it here, bleed the fuel lines, it starts, I go cut hay, it dies. It won't start, so we drag it back to the shop.....

Go to bed that night, get up the next morning, and pull the tank off....start sloshing fuel around and dumping it in a filter funnel...I found:

A BIG moth.
A bottle cap like from a quart of oil.
a big leaf or maybe two
And a circle of some clear plastic substance, maybe the inside seal on a gas can or something...

Once I got all that crap out of there, the Kubota ran great and never gave another bit of trouble, I sold it to buy a jd 4010.

As a side note, back in late fifties we would crack a couple eggs into the tank of local police car, egg would float to pickup screen and stall car at anytime. When it settled down it would start. It was pretty funny at 13 years old. Took them 6 months to figure it out.
