I've got a trailer an I'm tryin to figger out bout how much I can haul on it. It don't have no numbers er markins at all cept a 6 didgit ID number stamped on it. The axles is 2 5/8" in diameter with 2 1/4" X 10" brakes an 6 lug hubs, two axles both alike. The frame has a perimeter of 6" X 2" channel iron an the side rails merge with 2 more pieces the same size that come off the front to form the tongue (it's rite sturdy lookin) 2 5/16" ball. Cross members is 1 1/2" X 3" channel iron on 20" centers. The bed is 16' long by 7' wide. All the weldin looks real good an the trailer shows other signs of quality construction-heavy fenders, wiring all run in conduit, large guage wires, etc.
I'm contemplatin a move of bout 250 miles. The tractor I'm takin with me weighs about 5,000 lb. wet an ready to go plus it has a quick tach loader that weighs prolly 1300 lb. have I got enuff trailer? Yes? No? Maybe?
Money is kinda tight rite now so another trailer would be REAL tough to get.

If your tires are up to it ,sounds like your trailer would handle 8 or 9,000#

I had a 31ft Airstream travel trailer that weighted 8,000#, had about the same set up as your trailer.....Don

Thanks to you all.
I'm a natural worry wart-cain't help it, I do like the ol trailer but I also think a heap of the ol tractor. I've scrounged up a set of 16' wheels an near new 10 ply trailer tires a feller had us take off his travel trailer cause "they bounce too much an ride rough" (he only had 30 psi in tires made to werk at 60 psi).
Won't be movin for 6 to 10 months yet but I plan ahead.

Sounds like you could haul twice that weight with good tires on it..6 lugs wheels don't come on lightweight trailers, neither do 2 5/16 hitches.. if the tires are in good shape,I'd use'em..I've hauled thousands of miles with car tires on my trailers..I have 10 plys on my big gooseneck, but my smaller trailers all have car tires..

sounds like the trailer is stout enough to handle it. i would repack all the wheel bearing, get a set of at least 6 ply trailer tires, and check all the bolts on the leaf springs and walking beams. over time the bolts wear thru from rubbing. when you load it make sure you have some tongue weight on the trailer so it doesnt start whipping when you tow, i heard about 10% of totakl weight of trailer should be on the tonge, 5000 lbs trailer loaded, 500 lbs on the tonge.

6 lugs on the rims are most likely 5000 pound axles, so check the tires for a 2500 pound rating per tire.

That sounds like the trailer was constructed to haul 10k so you should be just fine...

Brakes, do you have electric brakes on at least one axle? That trailer will weigh probably 2k, plus 6500 of tractor, you want some brakes on the trailer to help stop that 8500 pounds....

Add up the weight ratings on the tires and then subtract the weight of the trailer and that will tell you how much it is rated to haul without an overload. It sounds like it sholud be up to the task.

250 miles should just about do car tires in. You would be lucky to make it. Use trailer or light truck tires.
