Sickel sections were all getting dull.

So I bought a new sickel for the combine and was going to put new sections on the old one this winter for a spare sickel.

When I turned it over here is want I found at every wear plate.

Sickel has one big curve in it also from the wear that didn't show up until I removed it from the header.

Don't think it is worth new sections what do you guys think?

Gary

Break out the old stick welder, some hard surface rods and a good file - should make for a nice winter project!

Nah, I think that one has had the best miles run out of it already. :o)

Gary how are you coming along with harvest? I got my ticket and am coming to Iowa next Thursday. My dad and brother are about half done with good yields so far. The corn check test the other day went 207 bu per acre. I am going to try to get up a day to help you if the offer still stands. Got to get some time in on the red ones. Have experience in the combine, grain cart, and about every color tractor that was ever made. Stay safe out there. Migraine

The sickel has been in the header for the 5 years that I've owned it and who knows before that.
It's 1995 model,I run 400 acres a year thru it so it could have 2 to 4 thousand acres on this sickel if it is the orginal one.

And yes it is in the dirt once in awhile and I think bean dust is as abrasive as dirt.

I've never seen one this bad either.

Gary, like Mr. Goodwrench says. "Fix it now, or fix it later" And you know when later will be. Next year when you're in the middle of harvest. I'm with Cowman, I think that sickle don't owe you anything. I remember having to get the header down in the dirt to get the beans that were there, and in the middle of the night with the dust on the cab winder and the wind blowing and the lights reflecting off everything it's sometimes a plain feat to keep that header off the ground.
