You all are right about making the kids work to pay for the damage. When I was a boy I was told to respect my elders. Now at 75, I am told to respect these young jerks. Lived too long. the circle has gone more than once around. The neighbor young man????? has wrecked more vehicles in 5 years than I have owned in my lifetime, has not had a drivers license sinc he wasa 16 and lost it DUI and yesterday took a shot at his mom after she screamed at him for wrecking her 6 week old $40,000 Lexus.
When we have complained to her about the many actions of her children (3 boys all the same) she always replied "boys will be boys". The cops come there at least once a month to arest one or the other of them. Who is to Blame??? Only the mother . 3 boys, 3 different fathers and none in the household. Some one will be killed before its all over. I pray its not one of my family.

"they are said to be thinking about kicking boys off of golf team"

Thinking about? That decision should have been made without giving it a second thought. Then let the real punishment start.

3 years ago something like this happen on our farm, the boy was 17 had a 4x4 Nissan truck jacked up and big tires, drove into our corn field did a few dougnuts , kept going, perhaps lost his direction drove straight for awhile, 1/2 mile altogether, didn't see the creek, wrecked the truck and TOTALED it, walked away, the truck was busted so bad they could'nt even sneak it out because they drove another vehicle into the field to try it, his daddy, who is a swat team cop, daddy called his buddy (sheriff deputy) they all waited till 9 am the next morning and called to tell us, the report said the truck was a "few feet off the roadway into the field" ( 2640 feet is a half a mile), my father forbid the wrecker to follow the little truck tracks to retrieve it, because that would knock down even more corn stalks, so we harvested soybeans on the other side of the creek and said they can come get it after they pay for the damage, the swat team daddy cop said that was "too much money", the truck sat another night and the boy and his friends came and removed the fancy radio and boom speakers while my kids called the sheriff about the trespassing, and the fuzz came after the bad boys left, my wife and I were chewed out by the deputy for my own kids carrying a rifle on our own land.
My wife and kids filled a gravity wagon full with the corn after crawling on their hands and knees. The court only allowed us one third of what we figured the damages to be and our questions about the details of what exactly happened remain unanswered , the kid still snots off to my kids at the swine barn at the Wayne County, Indiana 4_H fair!Good luck, I am sorry this happened to you, you are not alone, they say in some circles that sports keeps kids out of trouble....our experience has been just the opposite, this is only one story, tip of the iceberg.

If it's any compensation, I can tell you from personal experience (~12 years former cop) that kids like this almost always come back to bite their enabling parents in the a$$.

The one that still sticks in my mind, 15 year old boy, total scumbag, we were busting him from the time he was about 13 on. Dad had money, was always the "you're picking on my kid" type, buying him out of his binds.

Then, one day, kid (who was still 15 with no license) took off in dad's expensive (100k+) imported sports car with several friends for a several state crime spree (nothing major; gas drive offs, hit and run accidents, etc.). When we finally caught up with the kid, the car was pretty well trashed. Dad's insurance refused to pay; kid claimed he had permission to have it and the insurance company had specifically excluded kid as an insured operator of the vehicle. I think dad sued; I never did hear how it turned out.

Of course, dad immediately started blaming us (cops) for not catching the kid quicker.

I had a state cop haul my butt home one night. Dad and the cop exchanged a few pleasentries, then the cop opened the back door of the cruiser, Dad reached in and hauled me out and proceeded to pound my face in. The cop tipped his hat and said 'you fellas have a nice night'. My hot rod Chevy sat in the machine shed untouched for 6 months. And I didn't pull that crap again. No charges were filed, none were needed.

Good thing they wuz just golfers, I mean if they'd a been "gifted" football players they prolly wood a never been caught. A good runnin back could git away with murder-jus ask O.J.
My parents would be considered child abusers now a days. Ol Dad was a firm believer in the bright red butt. Most dads wuz in them days, wonder what happened, why'd folks quit raisin younguns like they wuz raised?

Apparently - those boys need to be taught better at home - and apparently, so do thier parents. Not saying that the parents are ALWAYS at fault, but it usually starts there. My Dad would of had me over to that guys house, shoveling $hit outta hog pens or some other nasty work, so fast it would've made yer head spin! Restitution, and a couple hundred hours of work would make them boys think about doing it again. Golf team? WHAT golf team? Season's OVER buddy! It ended the minute you decided to take the golf cart for a joy ride.

Virgil I tried real hard not to answer this post, but I just could not pass this chance to get on the soap box! My wife and I live in a small rural area here in Missouri. We moved from the city 6 years ago on our familys century farm, I have helped the family on this farm for thirty years and we are now living our dream, well almost. Urban sprawl or white flight or whatever you want to call it has bitten our community also like so many others. Saturday we went to the local coffee shop for breakfast, as we were leaving a thirty year old man,I assume his wife and a boy child of no more than 5 or 6 years of age were going to the door, as they approached the door this little kid screamed at his dad"Hurry up and open the door" the father replied"please don't be that way" and the kid said " I said now!" Pardner I would have been afraid to speak to my father like that when I was 30 years old, I would not have had to worry about dining, because I would not have had any teeth to chew with! I do not blame any one for moving to the country but when they do they need to bring their balls with them! Golf team my A$$ these boys should be putting up hay and such, not influinsing their ways on other hard working kids, and these young parents must not have any self respect or they would demand respect from their children!!!!I am sorry I just don't get it, has the world passed me by? Every time I turn the local and world news on the T.V. I get mad, disgusted and sick all at the same time. I know their are good people out their I read about them on this forum every day, I call them my friends. So whats is it going to take to bring down the lawyers, rapists, child molesters and thieves and give this country back to folks with morales and good common sense, I know most of you are on the same page as I am I can read it in your posts, as in thinking about the past, the frustrations of day to day operations etc. I too enjoy my memories, but I sure as heck want to look forward to the future! Sorry about the length of this mess , but didn't I mention soap box!!!!!Mike

The law says the parent is responsable for any kid under the age of 18 and their actions. We just need to start ENFORCING it and a lot would change real quick!! Make dad AND the kid go make it right with the landowner!!
