Which is a good tractor for mowing an orchard? Something low profile (side exhaust). Live PTO. Enough HP for a 5ft mower. Does a Oliver 55 have live PTO? and hydraulics?

A Super 55 Oliver has an independant PTO which is operated by a handle on the right side. Standard HP is about 32, 3 point hitch, 6 forward 2 reverse gears. I use a 5 foot cutter on mine and I have taken down weeds 4 to 5 feet high in 2nd gear. Remote Hydraulics was a factory option, but some do have it. I have a diesel super 55 and I love it! Great little tractors.

If you could find a "low profile" model, that would be good. There is a Ford low profile in the Tractor Photos of the for sale pages. Otherwise anything like a Ford N or NAA/Jubilee, 2000, MF 135, etc. Underside exhaust. Some orchard models had the ROPS in front of the driver.

Given that we had a 5-foot belly mower on a Super C and a Cockshutt 30 has live PTO and hydraulics, I'd recommend a Cockshutt 30. I doubt you'd have to spend more than about 1000 for the tractor if you've already got the mower.

A Super C has about 24HP, a Cockshutt 30 has, well, I figure about 30HP. So if that's all you really want to do with the tractor, that'll do the job.

Don't know much about orchard tractors but a 135 Massey Ferguson should do the trick. It is low to ground and would have plenty of HP for a 5 ft mower Good luck looking
