I notice that folks on here seem to say that one or two colors were predominate in their area. I grew up in upstate NY in the '60,s and I don't think there was a dominant color. JD and Allis were probably most numerous, but most every other brand was represented, We had a 620 a B and an 8n, guy down the road had Oliver and Massey, another one had a couple of Case and a MM. Oddly enough, now that I think about it IH/Farmall was a rarity. Most of these places were small dairys 60 to 70 milkers, a few head of beef and enough poultry for eggs and the table.

I only rember 2 dealers in town but dad has told me he knew of 7 at one time (town of 800)

grampa's cousin had the JD dealership and the MFH dealership
IH, ford, AC, cockshutt, oliver, moline all were here (but only 7 at one time.) and there was a case and MasseyHarris dealer within 10miles.

Until the late 50's, we had, in a town of less than 4000 residents, Allis Chalmers, John Deere, Massey Harris, Ford, Minneapolis Moline, IH, Case, and Ferguson dealers. They all seemed to make a good living. Surrounding smaller towns had maybe one or two dealers each. There was always a good selection of implements also. That was the era of small farms of 80-160 acres. The soil bank program came along and changed that real quick. All of a sudden, a whole bunch of farmers were sitting around doing nothing with most of their machinery up for sale.

I still live in a pretty good part of the state, within a 1/2 hr drive to any color.

For Massey it's Vanderloop in Brillion & Tesch in Seymour (Vanderloop is much closer). For Oliver/White/Allis etc... it's Tesch or Gruett's in Potter (toss up on distance but I really like Tesch) Reisterer & Schnell is everyplace for Deere, Greisbach in Grand Chute for Ford/New Holland, Weyer's right here in Kaukauna for Case & IH. Just about any other color, like Fox, Glencoe, Brillion and the rest are covered by atleast one of these dealers also.

Seymour is home to Service Motors. They have about 6 locations and sell a lot of brands.
