Fork Lift Problems

We have an old clark fork lift, which is run on propane. It started running real rich, and using a lot of fuel. I put a rebuild kit in the fuel regulator, and a kit in the heat exchanger unit. This made no difference, it still runs rich, and the heat exchange unit frosts up. It has good hot water flow through the unit. Any suggestions? Thanks Stan

Glen

It may have warm water goin to the reg but there could be a blockage in the block. they get a carbon type in the coolin system. not letting the water to flow all the way through the reg.
I have seen it many times and gotten payed well for my services. I f that is not the problem than the reg is bad. Let me Know If that fixes the problem.

You may need to crack a line at regulator output and make sure regulator is really cutting down pressure to about 8-12 psi. Is it an adjustable type regulator? Diaphram could have got punchured somehow or not in right?

Checked diaphram it is ok. I put a guage on the output line it does have too much output pressure. It is a impco regulator, and not adjustable. Stan

It could still be in regulator but like said above make sure water is flowing good and getting warm enough to vaporize fuel properly. Engine thermostat may be bad ? Water line fittings and hoses built up inside with scale or water hoses collapsing. I guess you may not have a vapor draw valve only too like on tractors. Other LP causes for poor fuel economy are: faulty fuel, improperly filled tank, throttle hanging or not adjusted right, or carb not adjusted right. Plugged vent hole on back of converter/regulator. Clogged fuel strainer. Plugged fuel lines indicated by excess frosting. Hoses can collapse internally. Check fuel flow from tank thru lines. Closed or faulty excess flow valve disc internally on tank valve. Don't open valve too fast or this disc can slam shut. Always open valves slowly. Lean mixture or altered fuel lines. Sticking high pressure valve in convertor. Restricted low pressure valve. Defective diaphrams or wrong ones. Faulty or sticking governor or broke springs. Leaking hoses ? Air entering between carb throttle body and air horn. Clogged air filter ? IMPCO http://www.impco.ws/
