I now have my 720 gas tank clean of rust. I put 10# of shingle nails in it and hung it from the rafters with a nylon rope and shook the heck out of it every time I went by it. What do you guys recommend to keep it that way? I don't know if I want to use the coatings or not.

Pour muric acid in it and let it set for a day or so it will shine inside then rinse out with baking soda .

I've used muratic acid before on another tank. It will take the rust out for sure but it will just rust again only worse unless you seal it. That is not what I want to do. I have the rust out now with shaking it with the nails and would like to find a way of keeping it out without sealing it. Do you have to do anything after you put phospheric acid in? I thought I read some where you don't have to.

I would coat the inside with a heavy oil after to keep from rusting until I started using it ,but the baking soda rinse will neturalize the remaining acid I have never had any problems after doing so

I used a product from this site on my W4's tank and it worked really well. It cleans it, seals it and treats it so it will not rust on the inside ever again.

Had a VERY rusty tank on my Ford 641. Took the tank to a radiator shop that has been around for 40 years. He cleaned it and coated it with something he said is impervious to any known fuel. Sediment bulb has been clean since. Cost $60.00. Worth it, especially since I only had to do it once.

I'd like to know as well. I cleaned out a motorcycle tank a few years back. The rust kept returning and with small carb jets, that's just not OK. I finally lined it. Then all was well.
