Did I hear you right when you said you had a Fox chopper? If so, where do you get parts from?

Yup, that's our fox. We've had good luck with a guy we talk to at Hiniker (the legal guardians of Fox) We got a new shear bar form them this spring, we ordered new gathering chains through anothere guy they pointed us to just about a month ago, etc...

I priced out new knives from Zenith but they're a little pricey for what we do. For used parts we've got a bone yard about 1/2 hr away that has a ton of old Fox's in the lot, I'll try to call them some time about the knives.

I think it was 3 years ago we replaced all the teeth on the pick-up head, we got them through an AGCO dealer that also does Hiniker but they didn't have enough, so we went to another old Fox dealer. So far, parts haven't been too bad, but you have to do some searching to find the best price. The teeth we could have gotten straight from hiniker for probably a buck or 2 less each, but that was before we knew we could order from them direct.

First thing to do is Google Hiniker, then send them an email asking about some parts. With any luck you'll get someone who knows what they're talking about and if they don't have it, they know who can get it, and they can recomend a dealer who may still carry Fox parts.

What kind of parts are you looking for?

I'm not looking for parts, I was just wondering how available they are. Where I work, I can get them also, but they are expensive. I prices out a pitman drive link for a guy, $300! What are prices around you? I have a part number if needed.

I guess the costs are right up there with about any other machine. Last fall I got a couple springs for the feeder housing from a local dealer that still supports Fox to an extent, but they went mostly to small equipment for landscapers. They were only about $10 each or so.

A new shear cost us close to $100 if I remember right, and a new set of knives priced out to about $400 + shipping from Zenith. Not bad in the scheme of things, just too much for a smallguy like us to afford for maybe 30-35 loads of corn, 10-15 loads of bedding and maybe 6-10 loads of haylage every year.

New gathering chains cost us about $450 this fall. Next thing might be the apron chain. I guess for a free chopper it can be expected to spend a few bucks on it every year.

In the next week or so I will snap a picture of the fox 2000 being pulled by a 145hp tractor. I don't think fox designed them to be pulled with that much power, but it has no problems taking it.

Does anyone know how the newer fox's are built. Looking for somthing with a 3row narrow head for corn.

Thanks

Just dropping in a thought about these. The neighbor in the late sixties used to sell equipment and had a dealership for Fox. MAN were those machines built tough! Nothing like our little John Deere #36. Know you need some power to run that baby. Jeffcat PS they are D&R equipment in Ringoes,NJ I don't know if they still have stuff but they might.
