Hard to get out of gear

I asked this first over on the Ford Board, but no one seems to have any ideas. Thought I'd try a wider panel.
I've got a Ford 3500D TLB, manual transmission, two forward, two reverse and Hi-Lo Range.
Sometimes when I get to the end of a hard push with the front end loader it's hard to get the shifter to pull the transmission out of gear, as if the gears are in a bind. Usually if I lift the loader and move forward a little and roll back it takes the strain off. If I force it out without moving first the machine will roll a little as if the gears had been holding it back. This has been going on for a good while, and I'm not sure that it's not gradually happening more often. Any ideas?
Thanks, Wm

Had the same problem with my 62 4000.Ended up being worn bearings in the tranny.Had to tear down and replace.

OOF!
I'll hope that it's the clutch adjustment for now.
I should have an idea after tomorrow. "All the bearings" (phrase the service manager at Fairfield Tractor used) were replaced twelve? years ago when I took it in for a bad rear main oil seal and they found the transmission full of water. I'm hoping they wouldn't have gone south yet.
Hoping.
Thanks, Wm

I know next to nothing about your Ford, but what you are describing sounds like a classic example of a clutch that is in need of adjustments. Get out your manuals and follow the procedure.

So if the book says the only adjustment is the free travel and it's supposed to be one and a half inches and I measure it and it's two and a quarter inches that maybe the pedal can't move far enough to make the clutch release completely?
DOH!!!
Ok, sounds reasonable. I'll give it a shot.
Thanks,
Wm
