I have an opportunity of purchasing a used Cub Cadet 125 and/or a 147. The previous owner has one of each (which he has refurbished). My primary use is for helping clear snow from my driverway up here in New England. Besides the more HP in the 147, does anyone have any strong opinions on one vs. the other?

Also, he is selling both his plow and his snow blower attachments. Any recommendtions (or warnings) about those pieces?

Thanks.

used an old bolens for a couple years with a blower ,,I trhink if you get a big dumping you'd want the nlower option ,but you will have issues with traction ,,make sure you get weights or something on back ,,,I have a gravel drive and had chains and weights ,,still got stuck a few times ,,,and yes it is a pain blowing gravel ,would love a paved drive ..

Phil has that right - I have a Deere 140 with a 48" blower. Used to carry the rear tiller on it for ballast, and that"s with chains and wheel weights!

plows work the best because going into the wind with a blower is murder when you go down between two buildings the wind is in your face both directions. when plowing push the snow back far enough to be ready for the next snow.

Just picked up a 147 last week. While I can't compare it to the 125 for ya...I will say that the extra HP from the 147 will probably be appreicated if you start blowing snow. As long as both tractors are of equal size and both hydrostatic drive...I would take the unit with the extra HP.

I would think either tractor would run the snow blower fine since they're both Hydro's.... there were two blowers, a 36" and a 42" for those tractors, I have a 36" and have used it with a 8 HP engine in the tractor.... a gear drive without a creeper, but the 10 Hp does run it better. If Your snows are 2"-3", maybe 4" tops a blade would work but if You have drifts, or deep snow up to a foot deep the blade is a waste of time, get the blower. You'll need added rear weight, the more the better, and chains...and there's a spring assist for the lift mechanism that You will want.... the 147 may have an elec. lift which is troublesome, and hopefully been replaced already. The hyd. lifts are fine, either the one that runs off the charge pump for the hydro or the add-on unit. Check the website "ihcubcadet.com"

The driveway is asphalt and about 80-90 feet long but in a big circle. I was thinking the plow would be fine since I won't hve to do one big push...there's lots of places to dump the snow off on the sides.

The current owner was saying tht if I wanted the blower, I should go with the 147 since it's only a single stage and the 125 doesn't power it enough.

Just trying to balance cost vs. usefulness... It's about $150 more for the 147 and about $75 more for the blower vs. plow.

We do get some wet, heavy snow up here so am concerned about pushing it around.

I have a 129 with hydo that I have never had a proplem with trans, works very good. I have always thought I would like a blower, because you can blow the snow away. With the blade you need a lot of room to pile it up, can't pile it very high.

Well first I would ask what kind of driveway you have? Snow blowers aren't much fun on gravel or dirt. If you have asphalt then either would work fine. I'm not sure the hydro trannys on these would like pushing the plow in very heavy snow. They would be better suited for the blower.
