If you throw some winter wheat and oats seed on the ground just as it starts to rain will the rain push the seed in enough to get it to start to grow?? I'm doing this just for the wild life so its not really a big deal if it doesn't but would like to know if I'm wasteing my time doing it?? By the way I just did that about 2 hours ago just as it started to rain and it has been comeing down since then. I put out a 5 gallion bucket full of a 50/50 mix of the stuff.
Thanks

old, just throwing it down will work fine. we even broadcast spread by airplane here in central illinois. we usually spread it out into standing corn about this time of year just before harvest. arter harvest, we turn the cattle out and they love cleaning up the leftovers with the oats mixed into the field.

I'd have to say you won't get much depending on the rain if it's a heavy downpour it will probably all go to low spots in bunches and if a lot of rain it will rot. But all depends on mother nature in the long run. Planted some oats this spring after plow, disc, etc and rained so much didn't get any in low spots cause of the rain.

If it keeps raining for a few days so it will sprout and take root it will work, if it does like the rest of this year has been nope.

If it's mellow (soft, worked or so) ground that will work at least to some extent. Can work very well actuially, but not every single time.

If the ground is not worked up at all & hard, no cracks, nothing - you won't get much.

Ya it might grow but probably not where you left it. If that ere done here done here it would be washed away by now. Bout halfway between Joplin and Springfield.

Hey Sid I went out about 4:30 AM and got the paper then was up until about 7:00 AM it hadn't rained yet but was lighting all around. I slept in until about 12:30 PM when I got up it had come a young flood I guess.

Most of it was thrown out on flat ground and some in the bottom of my pond, but the pond has been dry since June and I don't think we will get enough rain to fill it up. But it would be nice if we did get that much rain as long as it takes 3 or 4 days doing so
