I know the engine number for my Ford 9N is on the left side of the engine block but where?

Well now that you found it check the number over on the area called rearch and onfo to the left of this page. You may find you have a 2N instead of a 9N. Almost the same tractor and the serial number will still start with 9N but if it was made after 1942 then it will be a 2N not a 9N.

The number I found was _N137980. I could not make out the first Number. I think, according to the chart it would be a 2N manufactured in 1944 or 1945. Would you know if I could get a Hydraulic pump to lift my sickle mower?

Theres a number of ways to set something up like what you want. Theres a plate that will tap into the hyds already on the tractor, but they can be hard to find. Also you could add a belt drive hyd pump and valves to be able to do that and or a front mount pump that would run off the crank shaft pulley. As far as your number the first digit would be a 9, unless you have a 4 speed tranny then it would be an 8. Post your question down in the 9,2,8N forum and the people there will give you more ideas of how to get hyds for your mower
