Offered to my YT Tractor Buddys only:

One 1974 IH Hydro 70 tractor, rebuilt bumper to bumper with an easy $6K and one year of hard labor invested. Runs and operates perfectly in every way.

Will trade for an old IH 656, 666 or 686 DIESEL GEAR DRIVE. Looks not important. Must be field ready.

WARNING: Bring your own fuel tanker and funnel fer the gasser. :>)

You express my sentiments exactly as I did back in 1971 when I had a 656 gas hydro. Gas was alot cheaper then, but she had the same thirst as yours has. I too got rid of it.

Allan, its kinda crazy but I've also been thinking about trying to get a 666. Went to Eastern Washington last week and put on 80 miles on the back country roads and found a 1206 that a 82 year old gent said he doen't use much anymore and might sell and then in the next section found a 666 with 312 diesel and Rops. straight as an arrow but probably has not moved in a few years. Belongs too a mint grower and processor and the boss did not have time to speak with us guys at the time so got number and am trying to get the details if it is for sale. These tractors are very hard to come by here also and this is a gear drive. Thinking about selling my 966 and going a little smaller. Found a few other interesting pieces but no deals made yet. Will keep you posted Migraine

Could ya throw in whatever is left over of your supply of those 72 virgins too?

Don't know what I'd do with them either, but they darned sure ought to market a little better than this silly old tractor. :>)

Awwww, come on! Fuel is down to $2.45 here - so cheap I feel like getting rid of my econo-Honda and getting one of them super gas-guzzling SUV's!

It's pretty tempting, but I'm a cheap person by nature of growing up on a farm... probably keep chugging away in my little Honda.

Allan

From your posts you seem to like the rest of the tractor, especially the hydro. Have you thought about swapping the gas motor for a diesel? If I remember right that motor fit other tractors and a combine or two, so you should be able to sell it to offset the cost of the other engine.

Just a thought

John

Hi John,

Oh, heck yeah. I love that darned tractor.

The only thing that sticks in my craw is the gas engine. Trouble is, I'm standin' awfully close to the cliff with the amount of money invested to date.

I'm startin' to feel kinda like the high school prom queen who had too much fun at the party. Think my tractor reputation is being compromised by this darned gasser! :>)

It`d make a great rig to hang a 3pt snowblower on. Good luck, I`m sure it`ll fit the bill great for somebody as a chore tractor. Heck as pretty as it looks it may be close to qualifying for "trailer queen" status and just get hauled around to shows. Maybe you should put an extremely high price tag on it and claim it has a super rare serial number or something. I`m sure something will pan out for ya. Later Brokenwrench

Ya know, if we were a little closer and it came with a loader, I mihgt be interested. OUr Massey 165 needs some major work done to it, but as long as it's got the loader and it runs good I'll just have to keep on going...

I have the greatest respect for you guys that can still make it work. My hat is off to ya!

This little operation is just a "play thing" for me and these old tractors are just toys in the sand.

I just picked the wrong darned toy, is all. Oh well, so it goes. :>)

Yeah it gets to be a challenge some times... My parents and I all work off the farm, and my dad and I tend to the feild work on the weekends.

This year the weather cooperated for the most part with hay, and it stayed dry long enough to fill one silo with corn on Sunday. My dad says IH's made great blower tractors too....

Next summer I'll be done with school so I'll be able to do a few things in the morning before I gotta go to work, and it'll be quite a bit easier to get stuff done.

Howard,

I predict you'd just park the darned old thing like I did. :>)

I just cannot get used to the way these things drink the fuel. But, I'm not a collector either; just like to play in the dirt. I never should have bought it, just didn’t know they were this thirsty.

If nobody wants it, I'm going to strap that F-10 loader on it and let 'er set for the rest of her days. :>)

If you strap that loader on it then you would have an extra tractor to help with moving those round bales.

Yeah. I think you'd like it for a loader tractor. I think that's what I'd do too. But hey, I've already got a diesel Hydro under a loader. And a soild old M with F10 for a backup.

Yes Sir,

Live and learn, as they say.

It is a "fun" little tractor and I really like using it.

But, I just cannot get by my "diesel tractor mentality" thing and get mad when I have to run 'er to the barrel. Been on the diesels too many years, I guess. :>)

If I didn't love my little 504 so much for around here I'd be all over it. I was looking for a hydro like that (656) when I got her. It would probably still be the overkill the 966 was. Gas works best for what I need.

Hey Cowman, Does your woodstove have a flat top? I may have something for you.

Mornin' Buddy!

Yes, it is all a question of use.

If I were located closer to you, I'd be parkin' this thing in your hanger; you could use it 'cause I have absolutely no need for it.

I need something that will move dirt and I just don't give a fig what it looks like either.

Dunno, maybe I should peddle this one on ebay, then jump in the truck and run down to Wellfleet and see if I could beg that 666 off of Howard. THat's the type of tractor my uses call for; a "dirt" type tractor. :>)

My "other" mistake was not grabbin' that 966 of yours two years ago. Don't know what the heck I was thinkin' back then! :>(

2 years!??! My time gets away from me. Well, nothing but good come from the sale of the old 966. It made several people very happy and improved how I do things here. I miss the old girl but it is in a place where if I need it again I can get it.

We both need to get to Wellfleet. Something about a 666 tractor just kinda gives me the willies though. I have enough strikes again me to push my luck any more.

I have sure been enjoying watching you farm.

Hey you guys, ifn yer gonna start movin stuff around, I got a sweet little 7 that likes going for rides. It came all the way from Minni sota down here to the Ozarks just to be a hay tractor. Ain"t got a 5 gallon of black dirt on the whole place here. The only thing that keeps the big rocks from rolling down the hills are the itty bitty rocks.
