My club is wanting to put on a tractor ride this fall. I know some of you folks are in clubs and have done this before. What sort of issues are there are far as liability or waivers that you have to get signed? Did you have any kind of safety inspection before it started? Any help would be appreciated.

We are having at tractor ride in southwest Missouri on October 14th. We ran a route, proposed it to the Sherrifs dept, was approved and also have escorts and trucks pulling trailers in case someone breaks down. All tractors must have a SMV sign, no drivers under the age of 16, no passing, and no radios on the tractors. Lead tractor sets the pace, we also position several tractors in line with cell phones in case of an emergency to notify the escorts. We also have one rider who is a Paramedic. We are going approx 40 miles with numerous breaks and a catered BBQ lunch at a tractor museum. Done it last year it was fun so we are doing it again, just remember SAFETY-SAFETY-SAFETY.

if your club thinks radios on tractors are distracting the drive, but not cell phones. ask yourself which causes MORE accidents on the hiway.driver useing a am/fm radio, or driver TALKING on a cell phone?

Let me explain, the cell phones are used for emergency communications only, not for chatting during the ride. I believe you misunderstood the use of the cell phones. Should there be an emergency of some type, then the ride would stop, thus no one is chatting unnecessarily.

Come join us, it will be fun.

One thing ya got to remember is that MOST of the tractor ride are out west and they are not as YUPPYFIED as we are here in Ohio and more open spaces lot less trafic . Running a tractor on the roads here in Ohio is gettig more dangerious everyday as like up here we have to run between farms on a state highway and one side road and in the last ten-fifteen years people are more impatient . they will pass ya when you are signaling a left turn on a hill on a double yellow line . Turning into eugene's lane is a nightmare or pulling out of vernon's . Back when i use to pull the girl scouts in the one perade we use to drive the tractors and floats in to town the 6.5 miles and ya could not run road gears as things would start flyen off the floats now this is with warning flashers SMV signs and people would darn near run into the back of ya with tire squealen or whp around ya and cut ya off or pass ya and get infront of ya and slam the brakes on just to tick ya off. Now for some food for thought here i would go talk to the local sherrif for his insight along with the State patrol talk over the planned route and see if they could get and off duty officer to run escort even donate a few bucks to them as always safty first and never go faster the the slowest tractor can run . Good luck with this as it has not been done to my knolage here in OHIO.

We stay on back roads and limit the drive to about 20 miles with an evening meal following. We preach safety, watch for anything that could cause problems. We do have participants sign a waiver that's not worth the paper it's wrote on but it does spell out that they are responsible for their own actions.

We do allow underage drivers with supervision but there is NO PASSING and the leader goes slow enough for the laggers to keep up. You can't have some guys hot-rodding and running ahead.
