Just wanted to tell you that I always looks forard to your posts on these boards. I have enjoyed watching as you resurrect that forgotten farmland and bring it back from the grave. I know alot of people are watching and rooting for you! Someday I hope to do the same, unfortunately the family farm was sold and developed (as is the trend in the Washington D.C. area) before I was old enough for my opinion to matter. With land prices like they are around the D.C. area my only hope is to work the daily grind until I can afford to move out to God"s country somewhere and buy some acreage.

Again, good luck! And thanks for all the posts, and photos you always put up. Always brings a smile to my face!

Dave

we are seeing more and more of that here . people moving out from chicago and buying up most of the farm land for sale . don't seem to care what is costs as they sold theirs for a good dollar and need to spend it or give it to goverment .

Yeah, I am saddened by the trend to sell out and move but that is the way it is around here. Just last year the last active farm inside the Capital Beltway sold out. The owner stated he was tired of dealing with crime, trespassers, shot & Killed livestock, traffic inconsiderate to tractor drivers, etc.

just made me think about my grandparents farm 'bout half a days travel south of Allan over the border in Colorado. It was origionally homesteaded by my great-grandparents. When my mother and her 3 sisters inherited it they decided to sell out after 4 or 5 years of managing it from 4 points around the country. I attempted to buy it from them with some "owner financing" but the other 3 sisters wanted the cash. So, not only did the farm go out of the family, it brought the most any farm had brought in their county (phillips) ever. It was bought by another farmer who had sold his land close to the "front range" for "development" and he had lots of cash to spend. The photos Allan shows us bring back lots of memories of my "dryland" farming when I was young. Needless to say I was disappointed to see the family farm go.....

Hi Dave,

My first FIL held out and sold 5 acres of grass/scrub just outside DC (Herndon) for a cool mil about 30 years ago. Can't blame folks for going after the almighty dollar, I guess.

Due to our overpopulation (which no one seems to notice), land prices have sky-rocketed in the past few years.

I know. I paid wayyyyy y to much fer this ol' rundown farm that I bought, but I'm havin' fun anyways. :>)

Thanks for the kind words, you're a nice man.

Allan
