My wife and I are traveling from Southeast Wisconsin to central Montana next week and I was wondering if there was anything interesting that we should see while traveling. Any tractor, truck, or car shows? Anything else happening that we should check out? We have already done the Corn Palace, Badlands, Rushmore, and other normal tourist things on previous trips although it has been 15 years since we were out there. I' plan on taking interstate 90 out to Bozeman and 94 on the way back.

This is the question that I have been waiting for. Please see Ashfall Fossil Beds. This is a Nebraska State Historical Park, about two hours west of Sioux City, Iowa and not so far from I-90. There is nothing in the world which I know of that compares with this find. In 1971 heavy rains eroded a corn field and later a baby rhino skull was identified. 12 million years before there was a volcano in Idaho that put up ash 100 to 200 times what came out of Mt Saint Helens. The ash buried and preserved now extinct animals. Many people have no interest in this site but others are passionate about it. Stepping back in time millions of years can alter your focus. www.ashfall.unl.edu As a bonus there is scenic cow-calf country to see between Fort Randall Dam and I-90.

Wow...how many times have I done that trip? I live in Stoughton and have family that runs a ranch in Lewistown, MT. Lots to do:

Rock River Thresheree this weekend in Edgerton, WI.

Cabela's is always a good stop, if you can get the wife to go for it.

The "Dances with Wolves" set and museum is a nice stop of point to kill an hour and a half when you are in S.D. That was pretty interesting.

On the way back on 94 though N.D., you should be sure to stop into Dickinson. Great little town...ok, it's not little by N.D. standards, but they do know how to have fun there! College towns are great!
