How bad a deal is it to have rear tires slightly diferent? Know of one that tires say same size but diferent makes and obvious not quite the same size. Or even how about one radial and one bias? Would this cause any more problems than like one tire in furrow all the time?

As Old and others say, differentials/final drives are made for some differences in rotation speed (going around corners, etc), but it"s doubtful any are made for full-time rotation difference without some special internal configuration...and it"s not advised,in fact, it"s warned against, mixing bias and radial on cars, trucks, etc, because of the differences in rolling friction, etc etc., so it just doesn"t sound like a good idea to try it on very expensive to repair equipment, if it can be avoided.

Dad wrecked a rear end doing that with a car. Tractor is a different story tho. Depends if you do tillage & hard pulls with it - you won't like it at all & will match them up real quick. Traction is just aweful. Don't even try it.

If it's just a show tractor & doesn't work - then it don't look right & you will change them out anyhow. :)

If it pulls rock wagons around & runs augers & other odds & ends, probably won't matter much.

I agree with Old. If we needed a tire becouse something happened to one, we bought used in the same size if we could find it. Sometimes the width would be off a bit. You did what you had to to stay in the field and tried to make a dollar at the end of the year. Never knew of anyone harming there tractor becouse of mismatched tires.

As long as they are very close to the same size and tread pattern its no big deal, but if they are differant sizes then its not good. It common to see mismatched tires on thing for a lot of reasons. One is a person hit a stob and destorys one tire but the other tire is still good so he doesn't want to spend say $500 for a pair when all he really needs is one that will cost $250.

I agree with old, the rear ends of a tractor are much tougher then anything ever dreamed of in a car.

As for the fear that the rear tires turning at a differant rates will damage the rear end consider this, who has ever worried about pulling a mounted plow with a tractor with one wheel in the deadfurrow? Back when plows were still used our tractors ran hundreds of hours with only one dual on to help with grip.

you do not want to run 2 different sizes. and try to keep the bar angle close to the same so you dont over work the spyders like vet said
