Gas around here has fallen to around $2.70 gallon but Diesal is still $3.199 to $3.089 gallon. For a short time it was less than gas but it should be $.15 to $.25 less than gas. Does anyone have a guess as to what is up?

It will probley even climb higher as they gear up and start making heating oil buy it while it's cheap .

Gas around here (central Oh.)is as low as 2.40, while diesel is still over 3.00. WAY too much difference in price even with all the added costs to produce it.

Their is several reasons why diesel is more than gas now but it all leads back to one reason.

supply and demand

diesel pickups
with the increase in diesel pickups over the years the demand for diesel has gone up while they still get the same amount of diesel out of a gallon of oil.

time of year
fall is here and winter heating oil is being pre bought at this time.

supply outlets
every station sells gas but not every station sells diesel so the markup is greater on diesel at the station level. about .10 to .15 more.

then you need to realize the money being spent on new diesel refining cost. someone needs to pay for all this new equipment; and guess what; we elect you; common man diesel buyer.

Drag up the reason of the day from the Wheel 'o Excuses...

ULSD may be part of it.

Although a normal year without the switch to ULSD they'd be claiming it was that they're starting to ramp up production of No. 2 Home Heating Oil.

Some would grose it's because they don't build more refining capacity due to environmental regulations; people like me would point out they've merged a lot and shut down enough capacity we can refine less fuel today than 30 years ago -- hey, helps the profits three ways! Less competetion, normal stuff like maintenance/seasonal changes/government formula changes create shortages so we get to charge even more, and you didn't invest in more capacity either.

And the bottom line:

Because people will pay it.

There are two Marathon stations on the same street 1 and 1/2 miles apart. For the last six weeks one sells diesel for $2.79 and the other is $3.19. Regular at another was $2.45 about one hour age, my guess that they will go up over Labor Day Weekend.

Because they can, Because they want to and maybe to pay for the equipment to convert to ULSD?

All of the large truck lines and frieght companies have added surcharges for delieveries. Big retail companies (wally world) also use it as a excuse to raise prices. Farmers are the ones that can't add a surcharge and are not uninited like trucking and frieght companies.
