Thanks to all who offered advice yesterday. So here's what I did. The hole was only pin sized so I hand reamed it with a 1/8 bit and inserted a slightly larger well siliconed nylon screw and then covered the head with it. I added enough water to cover the hole and it is holding so far. Thanks again men. Regards, Cosmo

Hit walmart, napa, TSC, etc.. and get an epoxy stick. The sell one SPECIFICALLY for battery repairs.. and it is acid resistant. they also sell ones for gas tank repairs that will stick and bond to metal that is gas-wet.

Tilt the battery so there is no fluid leaking.. remove your patch and ALL rtv.. may have to scuff with some 1000 paper. then follow the directions on the stick.. mix and patch.. usually cures within a few minutes..

Cosmo,
You wrote previously:"a good bit of acid ran out"

If it was a "good bit", and particularly if the battery was fully charged, you should have topped up with diluted sulphuric acid of the correct speciic gravity, not water, to do it right.

That is correct .sulfuric acid will desolve nylon.

What happens to nylon in hydrochloric acid?
I think battery acid is H2SO4 -sulfuric. Not that there would be much difference in pH.

We had some 1/2" nylon tubing connectors in HCl service, they last for a while and then crumble.

I know for a fact nylon is incompatible with hydrochloric acid, I would keep an eye on the patch.

Whoa, back to the drawing board. I'll keep a close eye on it. Thanks for the heads up. Cosmo
