A little off-topic, but I need some advice.
I've got a 5X8 utility trailer and a 18' tractor hauling trailer. Almost all highway usage, but 3 miles of gravel when I go back to mom and dad's farm. I'm tired of fighting the rock chips/rusting thats caused from the gravel hitting the tongue and front of fenders. I don't want to put "mega mud-flaps" on the pickup (wife has to drive it to work) What do you guys use that holds up? Three years ago, I completely stripped the 5X8 to bare metal, primed and used the home-installed herculiner, truck bed liner. I rolled it on. Held up okay everywhere except where the rocks chip. What do you guys use? I can't stand my trailers looking chipped up.
Thanks
DJL

There is no paint that won't chip. The bed liner stuff is as close as you are going to get. You can put clear plastic on the front of the fenders, depends on whether you like the appearance of the plastic or the chips better.

I agree 100% with CNKS. There is NO coating that is going to hold up to the stone blasting. We build brush chippers where I work, and we went to using aluminum diamond tread fenders for this very reason. These machines are hauled behind dual wheeled trucks for the most part, I suggest getting some of this in sheets and cutting it to size to cover the blasted areas.Yea, it won't stay shiny, but won't rust and looks better than chips.

Well I would investigate an epoxy paint.
They are 2 part paints that you mix together.
I worked for a cleaning company and we were given the job of repainting the traffic lines of a factory. First we had to get the old lines off the floor because the traffic lines were to be different.
We threw sanders, grinders, acid, at it and it took hours just to go a matter of yards.
No kidding
We ended up lying on our shoulders after 12 hour days with razors in our hands getting rid of those lines. In a factory, can you imagine that.
My other experience with it was the bollards that hold ships to land. The stuff is almost bullet proof. I had the rest of the paint and gave it to my dad to paint his trailers.(I had safty yellow)
I had never seen a paint as tough as this stuff.
I hear it costs a lot though.

Get some rhino or linex sprayed on there. Unfortunatley I put some of that on the wifes truck and it doesnt work well at all. Her truck doesnt get used as hard ad mine and I have rhino liner. Her truck hasnt held up well at all. I have even gone as far as to take all the old product out and re apply with no luck (yes surface was preped very well)I have had both rhino and linex and linex didnt fade as much as fast but both hold up well and have a lifetime warrenty that is their problem to fix.

I'd get some Rustoleum enamel in a quart can and just brush it on. You'll want to clean the dirt and loose stuff off 1st, but you can paint it on right over existing paint, bare metal and / or rust. It dries a little on the soft side, so rocks bounce off it without leaving big chips. It's cheap, easy, and pretty durable for that sort of application. Tim

Front face of fenders takes a similar beating on my small U/Ts.Currently I having decent luck with spray can bed liner,I believe from Dupli-color.A lil pricey at $12-14 retail, but I'd bought a couple cans to do the inside of my tailgate.(Note)It bonds to the paint/primer not as well to bare metal. The nice thing is that its very ez to touch up/recoat/build up if damaged.A good coat of etching primer would prolly provide a good base.I feel the dynamics of chipping is best handled by something that"gives" and cushions the blow, rather than shears off the surface(ala sandblasting).
