I have a MF135 gas burner and plan on doing some bush hogging. Someone told be I need to put a slip clutch on my pto. I noticed and "overrun" clutch at the tractor place the other day. Is that the same thing? Which do I need?

If you have live or independent PTO you don't need the overrunning clutch. Chances are your Massey 135 does not need the overrunning clutch as most of them had live PTO. That is a very good tractor which you are fortunate to have. The slip clutch or shear pin is a part of the brush hog, thus it is not a tractor part.

An "overrunning clutch" (ORC) is used on the PTO shaft of tractors without live PTO, to allow the mower to coast slowly to a stop without propelling the tractor forward, even though you have depressed the clutch pedal, while the tractor is still in gear.

A "slip clutch" is a torque-limiting device that will slip if the mower blade hits an obstacle, to limit damage to the blade, gearbox, and driveline. Some rotary cutters have a replaceable shear pin, instead of a slip clutch.

They are two different devices, performing different functions.
