I recently checked my credit card statement on line, and noticed there was a charge from a very well known antique tractor auction company. I left an absentee bid with them a week before an auction on scheduled for July 28. Apparently I won one of the items which sold on July 28). The problem is that they never notifed me that I won anything. I watched the item sell over the internet, and the site said it sold on site. I assumed that I didn"t win, especially when another item I bid on (@ max. of $400) sold for $200 and was later listed as sold on there site for $800. I noticed they charged me for $420 for a nother item at my max bid on Aug. 7 and sent them an e-mail. No reply. Called twice, put on hold the first time for 10+ minutes, second time left message and said they would call back and didn"t. Left three e-mails; and didn"t get any actual answer until I disputed item with C.C. company. I received a e-mail explaining charges on Aug 14. They then let me know what I was charged for another parts tractor. My major problem is that I have since purchased the parts I needed (fuel tank and seat) since then, and was also in the same state the tractor was in the weekend following the auction. I know longer have any need for the parts tractor since I already have the parts I need. My question is what would you do? I asked if they would take $200 off since I already paid that much for parts/shipping for the items that I needed from other sources. I"ll also have to spend at least another $100 in gas to pick up this tractor that I didn't kmow I had won until the credit card company disputed. Am I just being unreasonable? I could have picked up this same tractor the weekend after if I had known and was in the area. Thanks for your opinions and suggestions.

Dug

Most state"s now have some kind of consumer protection organisation and/or someone in the state atty gen"ls office that compiles complaints re" improper etc business practices; they even bring pressure at times on firms that accumulate a lot of complaints. Even if they can"t or won"t help with your problem, adding your report may bring pressure in the future. Good luck.

Contact the National Auctioneers Assn in Overland Park, Ks. and determine if The Company or individual owner is a member of NAA. (913 541 8084) Then ask to file a complaint with them if he is a member. Ask also if there is a State Auctioneer Assn in the State that the auction company is in. Get the phone number and address and follow up there. (In writing) While there really may be few or no tough things a Board can do (I just finished 4 years on mine) when you point out that this matter is getting national internet attention my guess is someone will have a talk with him. Hope it helps!!! Most auction companies want to do things right. Its easier to work with a customer than it is to fight with one. Lowell an Auctioneer

Might be time to get the Better Business guys involved. They SHOULD have notified you, but they didn't. It could have caused you some major financial troubles if you were a little short of funds and hadn't expected that extra charge.

If they aren't returning your calls and otherwise trying to ignore you, go higher up the chain of command. Most businesses will back off once the BBB gets involved.

Best advice: Be there, pay cash, take home same day! If there is any chance they can shaft ya, they will! Might seem honest, but ya never can tell! Too many shifty characters around today! And, they know anybody not there, having a bid in, and using a credit card for payment, can and will get shafted, if that person doesn't have somebody on site, looking out for his plans and bids!
