I bought a Inter 434 tractor equiped with gaz engine (BC144). It is supposed equiped too with a two stages clutch. When I fully depress the clutch, I am not able to engage the PTO, all gears seems to be in fonction. I adjust the clutch as mentioned in Operator Manuel, so with the pedal fully depressed, the PTO lever arm refuse to engage. To get the PTO,I am force to stop the engine, engage the PTO and restart the engine. I would appreciate to know what is the problem and how to resolve this. Once the engine running and the PTO engage, I can change easily first gear to second one but the PTO never stop even same I depress the clutch pedal.

Thanks in advance

Jacques

I had the same problem on my 2444.
I found that the bolts that opertae the second stage were very far out of adjustment. I adjusted them thru the inspection plate in the bottom of the clutch housing and all is well.
Of course it could just be stuck as well.

Jacques: I agree with Bob, but try running it awhile. When your pto is under heavy load, try putting clutch all the way down. Your mower should do it in heavy cutting. Could be the pto clutch stuck on shaft or it's presure plate. That might free it, if stuck. It may take several times and indeed a few days use.

If that doesn't work, you'll probably have to split the tractor.

Either the PTO portion of the 2-stage clutch is stuck (the lined plate rusted in place), or it is out of adjustment, or it is damaged... (possibly the release fingers).

In any case, unless it is simply stuck, and finally breaks loose, the tractor will have to be split to see what's wrong, and to repair it.
