My nightmare 2003 F250 6 liter diesel w/82K miles is in the shop yet again-2 sets of injectors and 2 turbos in the past 20K miles and now they're replacing the entire engine. They say it'll be there for 3 weeks this time!!! Fortunately the engine is under warranty.

Has anyone had any success getting Ford to pay for the cost of a rental car?

Thanks!

My 2003 F250 has 115,000 miles on it. The only time it has seen a repair shop is to change the oil. I couldn't ask for a better engine, plenty of power, decent fuel mileage, and good in the winter.
Yes, there is a new motor coming out, a 6.4 twin turbo engine. I think model year 2008.
Lets all remember it just isn't costing Ford money it is costing International money since they make the engine.

Trade it off on a Dodge. Not until sales drop off will Ford or GM come to the conclusion that they need a good 6 to match the Cummins (or actually get the cummins). I'm sure there will be somebody say they had this problem or that problem with the Cummins/Dodge, but Cummins has a far better track record of building a powerful, long lasting and economical engine. The 'B', and now the 'ISB' has been prooven millions of times over. They're used in everything, common as dirt, and just plain keep going. Until the other two learn to put a good medium duty engine under the hood, these problems are going to persist. That's just my 2 cents anyway.

It always amazes me how a company can have a good track record with an engine or something else. And then dump a good design for junk and keep building the junk. GM was and is famous for this and now Ford. Toyota is scheduled to bring out a real full sized truck this fall. I hope they get it right like their older models did in the small pickups. They just might bury Ford and GM which is where they belong after building junk and screwing customers over for so many years like they do.

Get a 05 or new as the guy down the post said. LOL
I know of a 05 that was in the shop twice in a months time due to the heads lifting off the engine. His big mistake. He accepted 2 months of payments from ford. Now they will not touch the truck due to that. He tore the rear end out of it too. He says now it would only take a couple ton load to fry the engine again. Very low on power after the shop visits. There has been alot of talk about this in Farmshow paper the last few months. The thing is the 6.0 was designed as a nice quite street engine not for heavy pulling. It makes since they will not hold up due to the fact your making more power out of a smaller engine with highed compression. Want to buy a ford diesel. Gwt a old early 90 with a 5 speed. the old 7.3 was great got good mileage and ran for ever. Want a new truck Dodge and Chevy got 2 nice diesels. 6.0 RUN !!!!! !!!

I wanted to let you know i have had several ford diesel and the 6.0 is a joke. Last one i had was in the shop 14 times in 18,000 miles. Fought with Ford motor company until i was Blue in the face. Went thru the Lemon law took 8 months of phone calls. Between myself and my dad we have had 18-20 new ford trucks but guess what they would not give me a loaner. Friend at work ahs bought 2 used Ford vehicles in his life time spent less than 6,000.00 on both of them his transmission goes out the fix and give him a loaner,

We have a 6.0 in an E350 van at work (2005) and we have been left high and dry on the road twice with it due to wire harness chafeing in the first 10,000 miles! It relies too much on electronic sensors and controls. All of those are mandated by EPA so it will be a fact of life even on tractors.

I gave up Fix Or Repair Daily for Honda cars. Haven't been let down in 3 years and 55,000 miles - and I make better mileage in a similar sized car. I know this is not helpful to your post, other than letting you know that I had a lot of trouble with Ford vehicles.

i hate to say this but get use to taking it to the shop. I work for 2 different ambulance services. 1 has 3 of the 6.0 and the other has 2. Of the 5 4 have been in the shop numerous times. They range in age from 2003 to 2006. Fuel injectors fuel chips I can't remember all the stuff. Obviously Ford has not worked out all of the bugs. It is a powerful engine no doubt when it runs. Good luck with it

Hey Jack how do you like the 6.0 compared to the ole 7.3 diesel. I was thinkin about one but have heard a lot about bad fuel mileage.

i have a 05 F-350 that has the 6.0 and i love it, had no problems at all and goodness at the power it has, it is so awesome towing. if you do alot of low end torque the 6.0 is good, the 7.3L has good high end torque for interstate towing, word of warning, do not get a 2003 or 2004 6.0L they are a nightmare but 05 and up seem to be good

My brother has an '03 6.0, he has had no problems with the engine.

Ball joints - needed replacing recently. I think he has about 50K on it.

I have a '01 7.3 liter. I like it, but my 1993 Subaru Impreza has had less problems. I think it has less rust on it too.

My advice, stay away from the 6.0. That engine has cost ford millions. I've talked to few people in my area that have not had a bunch of trouble with them. Ford in coming out with a totally new diesel in 07? 08?. My advice would be to wait for the new engine or find youself a 7.3 a much more reliable engine.

There not much wrong with the 6.0 now, most if not all the bugs have been worked out.Me personally I would wait on the new engine until they work the inevitable problems out with it.The 7.3 was the same way when it came out.Is responce to the original poster, when you get it back..... .trade it! I have a 01 7.3 abd it will be gone as soon as I save up for a downpayment. While it has been a good engine, litle problems to date have cost me more than 5000, and that does not include the tranny that I know is coming.

I was always satisfied with Ford doing warranty work. As long as I scheduled the work in advance, they always provided a rental car.
