So ever since I removed the undies from the aircleaner our IH 504 has been "running out of gas" once it gets warmed up.

I can only use it for about 5 minutes at a time.

Now! It is highly possible that I have a different unrelated problem, but could the undies have been there for a reason?

For some reason the fact that you stated the tractor "runs out of gas" with the undies removed makes me chuckle...then gag...then chuckle...then gag...then chuckle...

d=8~)

I"d put another pair in there and see how it runs before getting involved with anything expensive, although depending on where you obtain them, I don"t know which would be more expensive.

This was a serious question . . . kind of!

I'll go through the fuel system 'cause it needs it, but I also like the theory that the fuel air mix might be getting out of whack due to the lack of undies.

So if the fuel delivery system isn't clogged, I'll move onto the carb.

Thanks guys for the humorous comments.

When ya use 'em for tractor filtration do you still go by the "yellow in front-brown in back" rule?

I had a 504, that had a problem like yours. I turned out to be the fitting in the bottom of the tank was almost plugged. Check that first, I was suprised.

What happens if you pull the choke just before it dies?? If it keeps running by being choked then you may need to rebuild the carb because something is clooged up and thts why you found what you did in the air cleaner.

Check your fuel flow, pull out sediment bowl blow air back to tank clean all fuel lines, blow out carb and re-assemble. After you put fuel in it you will find you can put your underware back on your bottom where it belongs!

And five minutes always was my limit....but, all seriousness aside ( if your post is serious) sounds like the undies were put in to match the air flow with the gas available thru the carb=not enough gas to run without the undies, (or too much air)...kind of an imaginitive choke...I could say I've choked on undies at times, but I won't go there...but maybe I was just imagining it...

NAPA carries a lot of tractor parts. Go in there and tell them you need a new pair of underpants for your tractor. It'll help if you can bring in the old ones though.
