I have a spicer transmission that I just bought and dont know what kind of oil it uses. Would anyone of you nice people know? The oil is thin, but motor oil can be that way also in the summer. Thanks

The transmission is in a Steiger tractor. Two speed. Number 1010 Some one said to use motor oil 10w40 Never heard of that. Still dont know what to use. It is a older transmission.

Tractor model and year would help, not much info to go with here. My 84 model Panther with 20 speed(10 spd spicer and 2 spd drop box) The latest oil spec from CNH is to use hytran ultra in the trans and drop box.

If this is a larger truck transmission, and the oil is red, then it's probably Synthetic 50. Personally, I would not mix that with anything else, or change to anything else.... but that's just me. Again, this is only a guess as to what you have....

Can you be a little more specific on the transmission model? Is this a small (single countershaft) or a larger (twin countershaft) transmission? The thin oil, is it maybe synthetic transmission fluid? If it is don't be mixing it with non synthetic oil, you will have a mess. We used to have a little bottle of it (the 2 mixed) we passed around in Spicer transmission classes, course that was 10 years ago.
