Usually this stuff happens just as I want to sell something, but this time I'm greasing/adjusting things on the 8N for a friend to use. Was running fine chopping brush for a half hour or so ...shut it down to make another adjustment. Tried to start it and now it won't do anything. Turning the key on shows a small draw on the ammeter, but nothing when the starter button is pushed. Battery has a full charge and the connections are good. The starter was rebuilt a 100hrs ago. What's the best way to bypass the start button to see if it is the culprit? If that's not it where should I look next? It is a 6v positive ground. Thanks, jim

Your stater drive could be stuck in the teeth of the flywheel. Loosen your starter and slide it back a little, see if it will come unstuck. That happened to a friends VAC CASE last week.

Make sure its out of gear twice. Then use a small wire from the small terminal on the solinoid and run it back to the + side of the battery. If it turns over then you have a problem with the starter button. If it doesn't then with an old battery cable or other heavy wire jumper across the 2 big terminals on the solinoid. If it turns over then you probably have a bad solinoid.
