Ok everyone, I REALLY need your help on this one. What is the very least size truck I would need to transport a John Deere 4020 tractor. I am looking at a F-250 with a 460 engine in it. Would this be enough? I would be transporting it about 70 miles back and forth to and from the land to the house. This would be done on Maybe a two week basis, or possible once a month. Would an F-250 with electric brakes work for this? What type of trailer would I need as well?

I dunno, Raleigh,

Do you really think that 460 is gonna have snort enough? Guess it all depends on the gears in the rear end?

What is "Snort enough" ?
I think it sould pull it but would the rig be safe? It does not have to go fast...just be able to STOP when I need it to stop...most likely will not go over 55 or 60 with this rig..

I dunno,

Just thinking out loud, I guess.

I'm not a big "towing" guy, but seems like my goose neck with a loaded tractor works the Powerstroke diesel pretty darned good. Just can't imagine anything less, is all. :>(

the f-250 will pull it fine. You just need to load the tractor on the trailer so that you don"t put too much weight on the truck itself. Course, you must put some weight on the truck or it will fishtail bad. As for the trailer, we have a 12000 pound bumper pull utility trailer with electric brakes. Carrys it fine. Finding a truck to pull it with is not that hard. Just make sure you have the brakes to stop it. If I were going to pull it that far that often, I would have to get a trailer with electric brakes.

hello, i had one and i moved it with a 97 F250 with a 7.3 diesel.. the motor had no trouble but the weight could be trying... as long as you drive like you have some sense then you would be fine.. a 460 has plenty of power.. likes gas though...
