Thirty years ago, the hired man and I could throw these choppers on and off in less than two minutes.

When you are by youself, ya kinda gotta be a little creative. Bet I fiddled around with this gizmo for an hour before I got it cinched up.

Found two bad bearings in the tightener. Jumped in the pickup and ran into town. The dealer had 'em on the self. Really startin' to think George the parts man walks on water too! :>)

Yea Allen

2t2 (my dad) used to do that himself when we had a F and I was away at college.

I think he worked out of a pickup bed or something like that. We have a M2 now which makes removal a little easier and we don't do it to speak of just change speeds for corn.

JT,

Do you know if that baffle has to come out? The partition that is just below the rear of the walkers?

I just cannot remember, but seems to me like it has to be removed?

Thanks,

Allan

Don't remember for sure on the F. If memory serves me right it does need to come out to slide the chopper ahead on a M. I know for sure it needs to be removed on a M2 but we don't run without the chopper.

Pretty sure it needs to be out to run without and needs to be there to run with chopper or the chaffer will be turned into mincemeat.

Just curious- do you normally take it off for some crops? I always left it on when doing barley and saved the straw for bedding. Just cut a 2x2 angle iron long enough to push it back out of the way, hanging by two bolts. Angle iron went forward to the front mounting hole on the combine side frame.

Hi Guy,

Yeah, that would probably work; might have to try it.

I've had 'em crack that light angle iron on the combine that it normally bolts to tho, so was a little leary.

Thanks,

Allan
