I have a 1952 John Deere B with the Single front wheel aftermarket add on. The frame on this tractor is extremely rough with many welds and cracks. Recently my friend called me in awareness that he has a 1948 John Deere B that runs great but has normal downfalls and the front rolomatic is broken too severe to fix. The frame on this 1948 is perfect tho. Is the frame the same a a 1952 frame? Also, is the clutch disk drive the same? Thanks in advance for any help!

Sounds like someone may have run a 4 row cult on the thing, which would account for the cracked and welded frame.Should be the same as 48.

The "B" parts catalog (PC-330) shows the front end supports (frames) to be the same. The clutch drive disks are also shown as the same.

The only differences I know of are the rear axle housings and the hydraulic connections. 48 had round axle housings. 52 had square axle housings. 48 used a threaded retaining nut to hold the hydraulic connectors in place. On 52 the hydraulic connectors were held in place by small lever device that would allow them to disconnect instead of tearing the hoses if the implement you were using came unhooked. The change was made in 49.

Not sure about the clutch, think it is the same. My 38 adn 39 way different than 52. In 47 they went to the pressed steel frame, kept it till they quit production. If by rough you meant the welds ok, but if you meant it looked pitted or rough like in cast then that would be a pre 47 frame. (or a left over that they put togather). Hope this helps, it just my opinon, not gosble enough to bet on.
