Mornin' All,

Howard's post reminded me of a rough old mechanic of years ago.

He worked in the brake shop at Rosen-Novak in Omaha and used a 1/2" impact wrench to bust lug nuts loose with. Every blessed morning without fail, he would oil that wrench just as soon as he set his lunchpail down on his bench. Just a daily routine for him.

One day, a newly hired car jockey came up to him early one morning and said, "Good morning, Harold. Did ya oil yer wrench this morning?"

The gruff old boy looked at him sideways and growled, "That is absolutely none of your damned business".

Think about it. :>)

Don't forget Captain Kangaroo (I know, not a cowman) when he, thinking the cameras and mikes had been turned off, closed off the show with "there, that ought to hold the little bastards for another day".

I got one fer ya...about 20 years ago there was a lawn mower commercial. Two guys were standing talking over a hedge complaining about their lawnmowers being in the shop. There was a gal in the backround just a riding back and forth mowing her yard. One guy looks at the other and tells about neighbor Bill and how his mower was just so darn dependable. The other says:"yep, just look at his wife Mary over there...showin' the whole neighborhood how rugged her 'ol Snapper is!" Saw it twice...never saw it again!

I don't know what brought this memory back, but I'll share it.
Years ago in my Dad's shop, an old farmer by the name of Willie B. would always come in and start telling his WWI stories. The one that I always remember was when he said: "I was so damn close to the Yermans, that they were throwing HANKER NUTS at me!"

LOL!

Guess that is why I like this place. Somebody will say something and it will yank up a memory like it happened just yesterday.

Good place, this.

Good grief Allan, that brings back memories. Rosen-Novak. Do you remember the old Jewish lady that had the furniture store for , what, a hundred years or so? We used to hear her advertizing for furniture about every other commercial on the tube way back in the 60's. Harley

Reading some of the stuff that has been written in this posting and others on this site brings a question in my mind (hopefully it will not open a huge can of worms),

Any idea how many of us are from (grew up or currently reside) in NE?

There appears to be a fairly large number.....

Even though I was born in Kansas and currently live in North Carolina I spent many years living in Nebraska and still have family there. As a child, in the '60's we lived by the town of Shelton for 6 years. It was Shelton that Charles Kuralt profiled years ago as a "small town" in his on the road series. After that I farmed out near Imperial for a few years till the blizzard of '77. I was out there last week getting an old tractor and forgot how much I miss the prarie....

Actually I am from and still live in Iowa, but the Omaha TV stations were all we could get. All 3 of them.

I couldn't help but notice that the lady (who shall remain nameless) who advertised the Chevrolets on TV in Omaha now has a different last name and is annoucing for public TV in Denver.

Must have had a face lift too, 'cause the ol' gal doesn't look all that bad either. :>)

How about the Old Home Bread commercials and the "Old Home filler up and keep on trucking cafe". The trucker's favorite waitress Mabel who looked like "two cub scouts playing in a pup tent"

I preferred Pam as the early natural skank instead of the later artificial skank. She got her start wile sitting in the crowd at a football game in British Columbia. That's western Canada for the geographically challenged. Just north of the north western US mainland border.
