Thanks to all of you who replied to my problem. I've owned this tractor for about a year, most of that year was spent working on it. (Things like rewiring the (already) converted to 12v. system. I swear it was charging backwards! It's OK now, in the charging dept). I've owned an 8N for about 25 years - been a good one. Also, have owned a 76 Scout II for about 20 years, & been a good one. Yes, I've checked all the other components, with front jacked up. Right king pin wore bad, but not binding. True, this tractor shows a lot of "lack of grease." Previous owner sandwiched a large washer under the lock-washer/nut on Rt Pitman arm, so it would force it on the spline farther. It appears to me that the Pitman shaft extends about 1/8 inch farther to the left. The big washer was sandwiched into the gearbox housing, & have about got that corrected. Anyone know how to "move" the Pitman arm to the Rt about 1/8 inch?? Yes, I agree that the bearings may have seized in the gearbox. Note: This gearbox has a grease fitting on the top; perhaps an add-on. True, it SHOULD use 90W gearoil, but I've not seen a tool, or a method, to get the 90W into the box, except a little in the very bottom, with a side-plate off. Have not been able to get the bearing under the steering wheel out, (it's OK), without tearing it up, to put 90W oil in at this point. Thanks again! Jerry
