A fellow Deere afectiono asked about one of these on the other tractor board. My own curiosity was tweeked also. I found this old card on the web.
Apparently an aftermarket thing. The question arose as one of these was seen on a John Deere D at a show in Kansas recently. That one was heated by exhaust gases.

Ships Do it Re:Reclaimo, anybody seen or heard of in reply to Steve Crum, 08-05-2006 18:49:07
Big ships do it they have a continuous operation. They have a system that is simuilar to a cream seperator, they may go on for years without changing the engine lube oil and only adding new oil to the mix, the sludge gets burnt with the bunker crude,

Steve,

There's a post over on the John Deere forum in response to your question. The guy said he couldn't get into this forum for some reason.

I remember several old oil cans on the farm of various off beat oil companies. Most of these were for re-refined oil. I figure that was reclaimed and reprocessed oil.

Yes, you jogged my memory; I'm sure both re-refined and reprocessed were used by those companies. I've got a file of miscellaneous ads in my collection, and while I don't recall saving any of those I'll dig the file out and take a look.

I just won the ad card that i posted the picture of, off ebay about 10 minutes ago. Maybe once it gets here I'll be better able to read it.

On my machine looks like date referred to is 1934; I know that during the depression, at least in the big cities, there were companies that reclaimed motor oil and resold it to cash-starved motorists. Don"t know anything about their process, but this was probably an outgrowth or spin-off (no pun intended). And various other sources I"ve read over the years say the same thing about oil: it doesn"t wear out, it gets dirty and contaminated, altho I note the ad doesn"t say anything about oil breaking down under excessive heat.

I used to buy re-refined motor oil in the '60's. It came in a glass quart jar with a long metal spout & they put it in for you at the gas station. Was 10 cents/qt.
