I was thinking of driving up to Yoder & Frey in Ohio for their next auction. How do their auction prices run? Is it a place to get a good deal?

The last time I was there at their tractor auction only eight tractors sold out of about 65 that they ran thru.

You can get a deal now & then.
They have a absolute sale row, where the item will go to the highest bidder.

Do your homework and shop around. There are always bargains at every auction. There are also some items that sell too high. You have to know which are which. Guys bring nice tractors to consignment sales and sometimes they sell cheap. Also farmers and dealers will bring tracotrs with a lot of wear or unknown or hidden problems. Stuff they don't want to sell at home as it may come back to bite them. So yeah, you can get a deal, or you can get bit. So be careful.

I have been to the auctions several times. I think they do a good job, I have got some good deals there. When I go I usually run into a couple of the local tractor jockeys there, that's where they get inventory. It is a big operation, and you should plan to go early, so you can scope out whats availible. They have certain days for tractors, another for combines etc.

I don't trust auctions anymore because it seems the seller always has someone in the crowd bidding stuff up. When stuff seems to sell high and you go by the place days later and see the stuff still there.... makes you wonder.
The seller always want it to bring more than it's worth and the buyer always wants a steal. You do your homework first and don't get bidding fever. Some people just like the auction scene.

Depends on what your looking for, they don't have much quality stuff anymore. There not jockys so they depend on consigners. They get a lot of rough tractors from canada.

Coloken, you and I must have read something different than some of these people did.It is a big sale yard(used tobe the largest in several states),but it is a CONSIGNMENT YARD so take your chances. They have had several complete farm closeouts where the farmer or a group of farmers had their final closeouts because of the Facilities there.Maybe I can't read right but it was a very question so WHY ALL the smarty answers,Maybe it is the heat.

Don't forget to read the auctioneers terms of sales as many now charge a buyers premium on top of what you bid and when you pay out it will cost you that little extra there. Always inspect anything at a auction well as you never know what jockeys bring in to sell there and if it was just freshly steam cleaned and painted over leaks and nothing fixed. Can't believe what most auctioneers tell you as they are just trying to make money and you buy it as is.

Correct me if I'm wrong --- But I always thought an Auction was a place where what ever you Bid was the price you bought it at, at least that's what I'v done at Auctions...

That is correct. Any item at an auction will always sell to the highest bidder, whether it be an actual bidder, some one picked out of the crowd at random, or a bird flying overhead. The only way to win at an auction is to pre-determine your highest offer and stop when the bidding gets to that offer.

If you think all auctions and auctioneers are the same, you don't know much about either.

Snotty reply to a guy just asking how an auction historically has gone in a certain part of Ohio.

You must be from a part of Mn that treats people like idiots. Edina, Woodbury?

Guess it takes all kinds.

Not even close -- Historically -- All Auctions are the same, but maybe you have a point, Certain Parts of Ohio could be different --- Sure glad I'm not in That part of Ohio....

All auctions are NOT the same. Some auctioneers can bring in the big spenders with their big mailing lists, etc. Some smaller auctioneers do a fine job but don't bring in the big crowds due to less exposure, etc.

I will not attend auctions done by certain auctioneers simply because they do a great job of marketing and the large crowd is just not wortkh the hassle.

BTW, you are still rude in regards to the original posters request. Remember, you don't have to respond to his query if you don't understand the question.
