What is the best hand soap available that breaks up the toughest, old tractor grease and grime? I've been using Boraxo for years. It works well, but I'm wondering if there are better hand cleaners now.

I've had great luck with Chemtool Carb cleaner. Spray it on a rag, then wipe. Burns like a mother on cuts and scratches, though. Maybe its a disinfectant as well?

Also does an excellent job of removing grease/oil stains from clothes. Spray on, then wash. But don't tell the wife! lol

The best working cleaner I have found believe it or not is Bakery Grease. They bakeries give it away in 3 gal buckets around here. It takes off paint, tar, grease, oil, anything. And the best part is, is it smells like mini donuts! I use it in the shop all the time, just use the grease, then go in the house and use regular hand soap and your hands will be perfect.

Dave, I will agree with some of the others here. Just plain ol blue DAWN soap. Just keep a pump dispenseer on the sink in the wash room. This is what I wash my parts in before I assemble motors back together. My Professor in a College Tractor Shop Class put me on to this years ago.
OBTW...Helps to keep your hands soft and supple too! LOL!
Later,
John A.

I'll have to get the manufacturer of it but we use some Cherry hand cleaner. Basically a liquid soap with grit in it. You have to shake it up since the grits settle to the bottom. Works awesome! Nothing is as bad as old used grease or tar and that doesn't stand a chance to that Cherry stuff. Hyd. fluid works well for removing a lot of grease and oil too. Baby oil is what most of the basement waterproofers use to remove tar from themselves and some equipment.

When i was in the roofers union before i got on the FDNY we used to use lestoil to desolve the tar on our hands.Got splattered on the face once with hot tar and the ER nurse used mayonaise to disolve the tar on my face.Today to me the best thing to use is Dawn dishwashing liquid....Dan-o

Pre-clean with WD-40 - it'll spray the cracks clean. I like the smell, and it even takes the smell of gas off skin better than anything else I've found. Then the WD-40 washes off easily with any hand soap. Wm

If you happen to run out of the favorite soap, just dip your hand in some high detergent motor oil and rub it in.Its made to clean the very same crud up on your hands. Then ordinary handsoap will remove the motor oil.

I like Fast Orange the best. With pumice if hands are really, ground in,dirty.

The best hand cleaner we have ever found to take tar and grease off fast is a product called Heritage, we have a large trailer repair facality and work on every thing from 6' trailers to 9500 gallon tankers which haul fuel, blood and tar. Theres nothing harder to get off than tar mixed with brake dust and grease but let me tell you this stuff really does the job well. We get it from a local supplier here in Springfield, MO. here is the website on the bottle: www.debsbs.com and the phone number is 800-248-7190, wish we had the dearship on this stuff because it really works.

I agree. Gojo seems to work best when I start cleaning up. Rub the Gojo on my hands, paper towel it off, then wash my hands with any soap I choose and I end up having cleaner hands than any other combination I"ve used.

Morning Dave; I keep "Fast orange" on the work bench. I can clean up dry, no water needed and it does a good job. If I am going in the house for something (dinner?) I finish with lava and liquid hand soap.

Mornin' Dave,

I've been twistin' wrenches since I was 6 years old and have tried every blessed hand cleaner that has came down the pike.

The best I've ever found is warm water and liquid dial soap. Try it, this stuff is absolutely awesome and ya get it in the silly grocery store!

Yep that is good stuff Allen. I buy it in gallons at Sams. I usually take care of the worst of the grease with pumice orange hand cleaner and then I am clean enough to go in the house and finish up with the Dial soft soap. No running water in my workshop.

I would agree 100%. That's generally all I use, but most any liquid disk soap works good, and it's cheap.
I've used a variety of commercial hand cleaners, including Fast Orange and it's knock-off's, some of the cream stuff in a can (can't remember the name), and Reach. Reach was by far the best commercial hand cleaner I've used. However, the good old Ivory is the best in my books...

In the aviation field it's called Kresto. I have never seen it anywhere else.
