Our local club had its first tractor drive today. It was about a 10 mile run. It was a great day for this with a picnic to follow. Here is my question, what is the opinions on pass other tracotrs on these drives. We where traveling about 10 mph. WE had a few younger kids passing others. Also there dads was passing the others also. On the way back to town the kids where passing again. I stoped them behind me and had a talk with them at the end of the drive. Also I talked to their parents who was passing on the way out too. Was I right by saying this was not safe? In our area the roads are hilly with nice twists and turns to them. I just did not want to see a good day go bad. I know I stepped on toes when I talked to the club president and his kid about passing others and made a big point of it in front of alot of people.
Whats you thoughts.
Thanks
Bob

Thresherman,
We abouts you from? I am only 50 miles from Mad town. Your leader had to be nuts for taking a tractor into that place anytime of the day. I am located southwest of there in Darlington. I am the new head of the fleamarket area for The Pecatonica valley Antique club show. If you know of any fleas looking for a show the weekend after labor day send them this way. We have a nice little show and getting bigger. Later
Bob

Bob, I am a member of the Rock River Thresheree. Actually, it was my idea to go to Madison. I figured if we got into town about1:00 PM It would not be that bad, then hit the road about 9 the next morning. I have heard a lot of good about your show, a couple of guys from Monticello really like it. Our flea market is down from the past, people saying that with gas and stuff they can't afford to, but I will tell our chairman to mention it. If you make it over to our show look me up, just ask for Bill, I am club VP

Hey Bill,
I sure am planning on getting over that way. A friend of mine is coming up from southwestern TENN that weekend. I have never set up over there to sell yet. Making plans right now on to what to load for the show upto Baraboo. I left my email open. I would like to chat with you on your flea area and such. I hope the Pec show gets biggger over the years. I also went to alot of the Iowa county shows too over the years. Alot of people lost interest in that club.
Later
Bob

We had our first drive last year. A two day job. We are from southern WI and decided to go to Madison and drive around the Capital. The guy in charge did good on the route, but paid no attention to time. Here we are down town in a pretty good size city at about 4:00 in the afternoon. What a mess, lots of cars. Well, we made it through and headed out to where we were staying the night. The next morning we were supposed to go through town and come back a different route. They decide to leave and hit the streets at 7:30 AM. Big mistake, traffic again, but that was the least of the problems. We set up the line up and were headed to a gas station to fuel. It was decided right before the ride to stay in order ser. The lead driver(who knew way to station) decided to block traffic so we could get across intersection. This puts a kid(16) in the lead with NO idea where we are going. We are headed down a busy street and he decides to STOP. Well he had a newer tractor(1970's) and he stops pretty fast. Next thing you know every body is just STANDING on the brakes. We all got stopped, had more tham a couple inches to spare. Well, the guy that stopped was coming up behind me full tile on a 930 Case. He was turned around talking to a guy in the wagon he was pulling. Turned just soon enough to see me stopped, swerved just missing a light post and his a tree full force with a back wheel. Thought tractor was going over, he was into steering wheel. Stopped him dead, broke rear end casting, axle casting, made a mess. No one got hurt though. Contacted the old lady whose yard he was in, she said it was ok to leave there. Went to gas station, fueled, took shortest most direct route home. After that he comes up and say"All in all, it didn't go that bad". Now he has one planned, has them driving down a major highway for about 15 miles. I'm sitting this one out I think.

This is related. We camped at Victoria Bryant state park in Georgia last year. On Saturday nights they have a "hay ride" around the park. The roads are windy and hilly. The driver goes pretty fast and turns off the lights for the effect. But, even for an old tractor buff like me I wanted to get off the trailer. I think there will someday be an accident which will not be pretty.

You are right "NO PASSING" ...A short list of simple "rules of the road" should be handed out to each driver.....

Yup, This is our 5th drive coming up and NO PASSING The lead tractor needs to drive so that all keep up. We like to stop about halfway out and have coffee and visit. Also no kids under 14 driving. We drive about 20 miles and end back at the starting point for supper.

I have had a 40 mile fun run the last 3 years..I am the leader and I have 2 boys that drive also..The first rule is this is not a race but a fun run (NO PASSING) look behind you and if that tractor is getting behind then slow down and after a while they will travel together..we go about 10 to 11 1/2 mph..
