Ford 2910 shifting problems

Greetings.

I have a Ford 2910 tractor (bought it used, don"t know anything about its history). I also don"t know how many hours it has since the gauges don"t work. When I first start it up after it has been sitting overnight I have no problem shifting gears. Once it has run for several hours it gets more difficult. I start "buzzing" the clutch and it gets worse (even though the clutch pedal is all the way in, I cannot shift without hearing that grinding noise as if I did not push the clutch enough).

Any thoughts? Does it sound like a clutch issue or something else? And if it is the clutch, why does it shift well as long as the tractor is cold? Thanks in advance.

The gearbox is not a syncromesh gearbox so you have to wait before changing after putting the clutch down. Ford's say it can be up to 4 secs before you can get a "clean" change.

Have you checked the clutch pedal clearance and adjusted it to the book settings?

Sounds like you're just on the edge of needing a new clutch- When its cold, the 90 weight in the transmission is thick enough to keep the gears from moving when you declutch, even though it isn't quite releasing all the way. When it gets warm, the gears move more easily through the thinner oil, and you get the gear clash.
