Taking my 4000 Ford down to work tomorrow to get it fixed up, needs some carb and gov work (along with the timing) and the hydraulic oil changed with the filter. Those are the two things that need to get done for sure. Do I get them to look into adjusting the bands, looking at the PTO as it always runs and look everything over and fix things that need to be fixed? Or do I get the things that need to be done and that"s all? Thanks, Paul

I'd get what I needed done, and ask for a price quote and labor/time estimate for the rest. If it wasn't to expensive, I'd probably let them do it....at least you'll know how to plan for the other repairs

However, I never take mine to the shop and prefer to do most everything myself.....

I really don't think someone else will fix it better than I would myself, and I don't have to worry about someone ripping me off for work not done, or over charging me.

I can mess my own stuff up good enough without paying someone else to do it!

I am with you, I try to do all my own work also. When I first started twisting bolts in the 50's I was just working on things. It took a few years, before I actually was able to fix stuff. I need the master cylinder replaced under warrenty on my ford truck, and I dread going through that process.Stan

You should have the necesary work done while the tractor is in the shop. If I decided to do repairs on my tractors I would wish some one else was doing them. And if I took them to a shop for repair work I would always think I could have done that.
