Matt take the exhaust all apart and clean it real good,it gets gummy. When I discovered this the first time I started it after I cleaned it it like to took it out of my hand there was so much difference. I always liked carb cleaner.

I was upset early sping, last year i bought a brand new gas weed trimmer and for the life of me i coulnt find it, i mean i looked for day for this thing. I blamed past employees that could of walked off with it. So i went to Home Depot and bought a new one, and some extra line. After using it and a quick clean up. I pondered a good place to put it so i wont disappear like the last one did. So i decided to put it in the shed and hang it on the wall. With hammer in hand and new weed trimmer i opened the shed door and was ready to put in my first nail, and i look over to my right hand side. And what do i find hanging on the wall was my lost weed trimmer and another new spool if line. What an IDIOT.

I had an Homelite trimmer several years ago and had the same trouble. It turned out the rear plastic cover for the engine was warping when it got hot and alowing air to leak. I tryed resealing with rtv but that didn't work and a new part would have cost 2/3's the price of a new trimmer. So it got tossed in the junk pile and I went out and bought a Stihl trimmer like I should have in the first place and it has been trouble free now for eight years.

Loaned my good steal (sp?) to a friend and bought a made in China 18 volt rechargable one for about 51 dollars. I love it. (Ace hardware)

Also, check for loose screws. Those little engines are made as cheaply as possible, and it is a wonder they run as well and as long as they do. With vibration, little screws, like the ones that hold the carburator to the cylinder block, naturally work themselves loose.

I had problems with my trimmer several times, The problem was hard starting, The fuel line was cracked. I know this is not your problem, but you might check that. Another thing mqy be going on is the condenser breaking down from heat. This was a problem with the old point systems in engines. Stan

I am probably not going to be much help, but here goes:

Make sure the oil/gas mix is correct

Remove the muffler/spark arrestor and clean the carbon off....screen may be blocked...

Check -- make sure the sparkplug is the propper heat range....

Adjust carb. with engine running wide open adjust fast jet in and out until it runs the fastest and the smoothest...

good luck --- Don
