I have recently had interest from buyers willing to pay full asking without hesitation. Also wanting to send 1000 to 1500 over and me to send the difference back. My question for those of you who have delt with this, If the send a money order or cashiers check can the bank tell right away if it is legit. I will tell the last guy for the exact amount, no more. Also if the bank cash"s it is there any responsabilty on my end? This all makes me nervous.
Thanks Jay

another thing is on ebay 2nd chance offers, i had a big clark wheel loader on there and it didnt make reserve. A friend of mine was trying to get in a couple of bids to get it cheap, but i didnt let him. He claimed i sent him a second chance offer. He called me and inquired about it and i didnt know anything about it. Then the very next day i was bidding on a little 9N that i could possibly make a buck on. I stopped bidding at $1300, by the time i fugured my fuel and travel i wasnt making anything so i stopped. The tractor goes to $2100, I get a notice in my normal e-mail for a second chance offer. so i go back to ebay and ask the seller, he said no it sold for $2100 and he didnt send any second chance offers out! Watch yourselves boys!

Quote "if the bank cashes it etc."
thats the problem, the bank will cash it, credit your account, then a week or 2 weeks later they find it bad and come back on you.

Jay, all ways a scam, never never consider it any thing else. Denver real estate Co. got burned with a 250 thousand cashiers check last month Check was for more than house cause "she wanted 40 thousand extra to have some cash back to re-do some thing. My question is--what IS safe money????? 100 dollar bills make a big pile, and you still need to check them.

One you accompany the buyer to the bank and stay by his side while he gets the certified check...which he endorses over to you before you leave the teller's window and without losing sight of the check. :)

I guess it comes down to what you feel comfortable with as reasonable trust.

Hey Jay,
Yes it's a scam....a very old one at that. It's a variation of what is called te Nigerian Scam. You can google Nigerian Scam, and get a lot of info. This variation is known as the "up front payment" scam. They send you a bogus cashier's check for more than they payment, and want the rest in return. Trouble is their check is NEVER good...NEVER. Since it's a overseas check, it takes weeks to clear. By the time the bank realizes it's bad, you've already figured it's good and returned your good check.

Keep in mind, they do not want, nor care about the product. The check they send you is never good...ever.

Here's one of many places to check out this variation of the scam.

Dont do any "cash back" offers. Make sure the check is a genuine check from a local bank you know of and verify. These SCUM can make very real looking checks these days. As far as responsibily I beleive the bank that would cash it would be on your a!# for re.payment and charges

Dave,
You'd think the banks could set something up and put it in place to stop this, and save the little guy a lot of heart ache. With computers they can figure out, how to make another 4Billion a quarter year.....
Why not help the people that 'PAY', to put their money in, take it out, up date their book, or let it rest for awhile, it seems there is a service charge for the service charge, at the bank.
They could give a little back.
