Did anyone attend the Tractor portion of the Barr Ashcroft estate Auction last Friday? (July 7) I went Thursday to look around and picked up a very nice, very complete ca. 1937 DeVilbiss air compressor with a Briggs & Stratton B engine.

There were about 70 tractors, most were complete, looked like they were driven there and parked, then never touched again (I was told he lived there 16 years).

There were very many very good projects, but I could not justify another big project right now so I did not go back for the tractor auction.

The tractors were mainly Massey-Harris, Farmalls, Minnesota-Moline, Cochshutt.

I am wondering if anyone saw how much these machines went for.

Hi D17Man. I am in Shrewsbury, near Worcester. I went to undergrad and grad school at UMASS Amherst though, and lived in Sunderland for part of that time.

I love the "Happy Valley" and would like to move back there sometime, but for now we are settled pretty deeply here in central Mass.

Because you could not claim your stuff till the end of the auction last Thursday, I had a few hours to kill so I took a drive around with my dad to some of my old stomping grounds: Sugarloaf Mt., Cranberry Pond, Rattlesnake Gutter Road in Leverett, Silver Bridge and other swimming and fishing spots on Cushman Brook. I think my dad got a tad bored, but I had a grand time.

There"s some great farm land in Sunderland area, are you a farmer or in some other related work?

I am always looking for auctions, and my impression was that this one was very poorly advertised, but plenty of people showed up.

I was hoping demand would be low and things would go cheap, but judging by the activity and the prices people were paying for anything of any value on Thursday (I probably paid too much for my little compressor), I assume the tractors did not go too terribly low. That's another reason I did not make the trek back on Friday.

Plus, even if the tractors were going cheap, the savings probably would not have offset the cost of the divorce that I would have likely ended up with :)
