MF1105 head gasket leaking

I have what appears to be a small leak from the head gasket on the Perkins 354 on my MF1105. There is oil and just some small tiny bubbles visible at the front corner of the head just behind and to the left of the injection pump.

How big of a problem is this? I realize if it got real bad then it would have to be repaired, but if it stays as a small leak can I just live with the oil leaking down the side of the block.

Am I also loosing compression in one cylinder due to this or all the cylinders?

Any idea of the cost if I were to pay somebody to do this or is the replacement of the head gasket something that somebody who hasn"t ever done it before but is consistently performing mechanical tasks for the first time with decent results could do?

Any help would be appreciated.

Do remember a couple of items. It is more involved on an overhead valve Diesel than on a L-Head 4 cylinder 8N Ford. You will also need to retorque the gasket, readjust the valves, etc. If you want to do it find me on the Oliver website and I will make up a check list for you. Remember Whites and Olivers also used a 354 Perkins. Also there are probably 4 or 5 different 354 head gaskets so make sure you get the correct replacement. Questions? J.

Would really love to see that checklist, could you send it directly to my e-mail, I'm not sure what "oliver website" you are refering to. THANKS!

Very easy repair for anyone with any mechanical ability and a torque wrench. I did it to my 8N and had never done one before. Get an I&T manual for your tractor and get torque specs and sequence on head bolts.
