I was up where my tractors reside again this weekend.
Back at the old homestead where we've been for 5 generations now. I have a tiny/few of acres of the place my great grand dad bought in 1880 or so.
Saturday morning I was sitting outside my camper drinking coffee barefoot in the lawn chair. Nice summer morning.
Good old Virgil - Dad's first cousin stopped by and after the morning howdedoos mentioned that his B just quit running and wouldn't start again.
I told him I'd get some shoes on and be over in a bit.
I guess they think I know something because I have 2 blue tractors and they both usually run.
Dog and I walked across the road and had a look.
It wasn't much. No spark. Points were ancient.
So we went in to town and bought points and a condenser. Engine was flooded so we had to dry the plugs of course.
Got it all back together and the Allis fired right off.
Of course Virg's brother Herb
lives next door and heard it fire up so he stopped by on his JD lawn tractor. And my cousin Duff and his son Mike
on the other side walked over. Then my Brother Greg saw us all leaning against the tires
as he drove by on the road so he came in.
And we talked about points and tractors and Bush and bass and crappies and gas prices and the big lightnng and thunder we had the night before. For at least an hour.
Then everyone had their stuff to do on a Saturday morning. So we departed.
And Virgil, the good old cousin that he is asked me what he owed me. Of course I told him I was just glad to help and didn't need a thing.
But he motioned me into the garage and reached in to a cardboard box and gave me two pints of home made maple syrup.
I was glad for the syrup. I was glad for tractors and bad points.
And I was real glad to be a part of that clan.

I've been resisting going to my mom's family reunion outside Challis, ID this summer, but now maybe I'll rethink that and go.

My wife wants to know what books you've authored.

VERY nicely written, bravo!

Chickamagua GA

PS I live in a very rural place and people often ask me (I'm an airline pilot) why I live where I do, it being what they call devoid of culture and all. Think I'm gonna print that and from now on just hand it to them.
